I just received this in the mail today. I live in an unincorporated part of Cook. We got a post card weeks ago about the stickerless wheel tax. Now I get a letter in the mail of a Wheel Tax Notice of Liability (section 74-522) for $80. I own 2 cars. The dsm which is mine, which I got the letter for, and the mazda which is leased. Im guessing since the bank owns the mazda I wont get a letter for it? Either way who else got this, and paid it, didnt pay it? Should I pay it?

Sorry if this was a thread already, I didnt see one.

I freaking hate the wheel tax in cook.

Rip off

They'll go off your place registration.

But then they get you with the "If you register, or live" in cook.

I tried registering my plates at my dads house, didn't help. So even though the cars are registered to Lake County, because my drivers license is in un-incorporated cook county, I have to pay for the damn stickers.

Buddy of mine got it a couple weeks ago. Him or myself and a few other buddies never heard of or seen it. Pretty sure he wound up paying it

Who pays that? I know some towns have city stickers or what not. I literally never did. Ever

Cook county is insane about it. They will suspend your plate registration and ticket you daily for it.

Its a major rip off as the wheel tax is supposed to pay for road upkeep but fuck all if I see any of that money doing what it should.

The late fee is as much as the sticker, and each ticket is $110

Couple years ago I was sent a letter about getting a sticker for cook county. I said fuck that Im not putting a sticker of any sorts on my windshield.. Itll look like ass. But now theyre sending this stickerless tax letter. And Im still thinking about not paying. Although what you guys are saying about not paying it does not sound great either.

Fuck 'em.

Send them a picture of money.

Beating a dead horse here - I bought a nice house JUST over the line in Indiana.
Fireworks? Of Course!
Gun registration? WHY?!?
Older car plates = dirt cheap.
House taxes = laughable in comparison to Ill-Annoy.

Im actually in the market for looking for a house, but Im still looking at towns in cook. I live in the unincorporated leyden township in melrose park. Just next to the border of dupage. But I do a lot of city stuff and rarely go do anything west of here.

I grew up in the town over and I have a rental property and over the years the taxes have sky rocketed

My parents still get wheel tax notifications at their house for all of my shit that's no longer registered in the county. Cook county is awesome.

Move that out here also. :D

I suppose though that they would quickly question your vehicle being parked every day in Cook, but registered elsewhere...
