Same thing happened to a buddy of mine looking for a Caprice. Paid a flat bed to drive down to Detroit only to find out the guy took pics of everything but the rusted out undercarriage and floor boards. Swore up and down all of that was clean. He took pics of the only clean spots on undercarriage lol

I should also mention that right now, this experience likely isn't tell-tale of all used vehicle buying experiences of course.

A lot of this shittiness is because I'm trying to buy a completely 10000%, non-enthusiast vehicle... this is probably why i enjoy buying cars/trucks from enthusiasts. because they typically fucking care and know half of what they are talking about... and car guys are usually pretty honest.

like my last bmw, i drove 4 hours to buy that and it was even better than the dude described it... i was at his house no more than 15 minutes and on my way happy as a clam.

Not to hijack your thread, but from a sellers perspective this is 100% why I do not sell “normal” vehicles to the public if at all possible anymore. It goes to show that OVERALL, people are fucking dense. It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you are on, the same people saying something has no rust and 100% believing themselves are the same people asking for a ride to trade a Movado watch for a $1,500 car that has to be perfect.

I had Hannah’s 2008 Aveo sitting on the side of the road at my friends place (lives on 173 which sees tons of traffic). Kid texts me about the car, asking some fair questions but most a bit too ”choosy” for a $1,500 running/driving newer vehicle.

After agreeing on $1,300 he showed back up at 9:52pm, almost an hour late, then proceeded to bitch about the AC compressor making noise (it was a belt, he didn’t like when I sprayed it with WD-40 and shut it up), the brakes squeaked and the power steering pump had a SLIGHT but noticeable whine.

He then starts a 15 minute conversation about how he’s using the car for his “side hustle“ leasing it out to delivery drivers, how it’s so lucrative, etc... At about 10:40pm he decides to offer me $600, pretty much told him to get bent. I will give him credit for knowing just about every “I think I know how to negotiate on vehicles” tactic in the book but got shut down on every level. He told me he would take it for $1,000 if I guaranteed the car for 5 days. He was too young to get my Tommy Boy reference of taking a shit in a box and marking it guaranteed if it would make him feel better. I countered with $1,300 and once the car leaves this driveway you and the car are no longer my fucking problem. Finally settled on $1,200, he handed me the money and was pretty pissed that I signed and dated the title and printed his name on the buyers line ?. He also tried to buy my license plates off of me.

I’m leaving out tons of detailed banter, but thats about as much as I feel like typing out on an iPad screen.
