whats the diffrence in doing a irs gear and a straight axle. the shop told me its a 100 dollars more. and is it the same ring and pinion as a straight axle.
It's actually easier to do the actual setup on an IRS because it becomes a bench job like doing a 9". The extra $100 is probably to take out the IRS diff.

same 8.8 housing a solid.. BUT, the big difference is that you can't yank the diff out with the irs in it's place like you can on a solid. So you either have to tear down the irs to a point, or pull it somewhat out of the car.
