Nah. I'm not a space nerd, I just like documentaries on disasters
Lol,.. well it is a documentary, just no disaster. It uses footage from 1969 that was never made public, but shot on 70mm film, so the quality is exceptional. There are no actors, just the actual persons involved at that time. For the score the composer used instruments that were only available in 1969 or earlier, so nothing modern.

Basically NASA commissioned Paramount (?) to film that stuff for Apollo 11, then pulled out towards the end. Paramount said "fuck that, we're gonna finish it". Then it sat for 50 years until the footage was found and made into the documentary.

Watched this a few weeks ago. I knew most of the story since we learned about it in our engineering ethics courses, but they added the human element to it which made it real.
When I later dove deep into the issue and saw all the interviews where they talked about the Memo's and they KNEW about the problems before hand and still let it fly I was stunned.

There was a report that came out a few years ago that said they were likely alive on the way down until they hit the ocean. I'll see if I can find it.
I recall hearing the same thing. I think it was determined by what they found in the crew cabin when they brought it up from the ocean floor.

There was that, and I think something to do with their watches/computer clocks. The "stopped" time matched that of the impact with the water, and not that of the explosion. So they figured that the explosion wasn't enough [G] force to kill them but water impact was.

There was some speculation that they actually survived the impact with the ocean and died on the sea floor waiting to be rescued, but don't know if there is any legitimacy with that.

This is just nuts.. At least in that docu they didn't show anything of the ship falling back to earth
