Neither one of them are in the same league as homemade. I have some split pea in the freezer that would blow them away.

I used to love canned soup as a kid but got spoiled when I started cooking my own. Now canned tastes salty and lacks flavor complexities.

Canned soups have gone downhill, too, over the years. Used to be Campbell's Cream of Chicken had a lot of chicken and a lot of cream in it.

Same here. Except I was spoiled by a local Italian deli whose former chef made "cream of xxxxx" soups with a real cream base. It was the best soup I've ever had. I'm 99% certain he learned to cook like that in the joint, but I digress.
