Beware what you wish for, guys.

Balancing the budget is *real* easy-get rid of social security. And close welfare and unemployment programs while also cancelling educational grants and loan programs.
Pull the plug on NASA, bye bye National Science Foundation, sell the national landmarks and parklands to the highest bidder, lease out the Interstates to private companies for conversion to toll roads, and if we're still a few billion short why not sell some B2 Stealths while were at it.

We'd have a small(er) government. We'd have a balanced budget. The US would also have 30% unemployment, wed be in the worst depression on record and the global economy would be severely damaged, equalling hundreds of millions of people all over the world who cant afford to eat. Some of them would be the very same people commenting in this thread asking for small government and a balanced budget.

Instead of playing fantasy President , how about we collectively stick to the topic at hand and leave the phony political bickering to MSNBC.

Well that was not what we were discussing but ok. I don't think anyone would want a balanced budget with those results, but if I recall Presidnt Clinton had a balanced budget with a surplus, so your above statements are wrong. Oh and by the way, the U.S. is already selling things to the highest bidder, look at the illinois toll road for starters.

oh noes, silly sky is falling argument. according to this logic apparently the entire world was in a constant depression before the 20th century. NASA? oh yeah i'm sure if those guys got let go then they wouldn't have enough skills to start doing another job, right. how about one in an area of... space exploration, which there are plenty of private companies already interested in, yet the government restricts much of their movement and progress?? despite proving they can do so much with such little money?

smaller government = depression only if you believe jobs and wealth come from the government.

That wasn't my point at all.It was easier for Clinton to balance the budget with an improving economy-you can raise taxes in that scenario and collect additional income without damaging the economy. So that's a different box of oranges completely.

Were in a downturn now,one in which a lot of people would be starving now without government programs like unemployment and the like.Trying to balance the budget now is bad for the greater economy right now, simply because you can't raise taxes. So,since you can't increase income, that leaves removing programs.Bye bye NASA,SS,etc.

Your assumption was incorrect-I was making the point that every decision has consequences.

BTW,private space exploration had nothing to do with my post at all.

regardless, the obama numbers are far, far larger - although i don't exactly blame obama for this. i think the picture would be very, very similar if we had mccain in office right now.
I don't know....
Considering every House Republican voted against the budget and were bitching about Obama's plan....and were CALLED OUT by Obama to stop their bitching since they didn't have any budget to counter with. A BIG GAMBLE by the GOP voting against this budget by playing politics because if the economy turns around they are COMPLETELY and UTTERLY FUCKED by not being able to say "I told you so". No fucking wonder they want "Obama to Fail"....but what about hardworking American's you dipshits.

Then two days later the GOP came up with a budget....but it had NO NUMBERS, it was basically just an informational pamphlet on conservative ideas (yawn). They looked like bumbling idiots....probably because they are.
This all happened last week, BTW.
So basically tomorrow Republicans are going to get all together and have a pow-wow so they don't look as stupid as they are, and put out some REAL NUMBERS...a week late and a dollar short, lol.

It doesn't really matter, Democrats have a majority and can pass pretty much whatever they want, thank god. GOP is in shambles and couldn't replace a lightbulb even if they tried.

sure didn't sound like that when i read it. pretty extreme nonetheless i mean even the most extreme people in government wouldn't just be like lolz chop chop and just turn everything off.

and we're not going to get through this without experiencing some pain. it is certainly possible that no stimulus would lead to 1-2 years of lots of pain but it is also certainly possible that big stimulus leads to 3-10 years of pain.. the latter haven't a greater total cost.

i really don't think they're going to have to worry too much about that. of course after any failure the cry by the politicians will be "just think about how bad it would have been had we not done anything!"

even the liberal economist god (paul krugman) has been extremely critical of the stimulus and of all the bank rescue programs. i read some guys who have been spot on about all this stuff and those that don't support any stimulus see no improvement and those that are even great advocates of a stimulus think this one is full of fail. i have pretty low expectations.

Oh yea! Thank god they can pass a 1.3 trillion dollar spendulus package! (luckily the GOP and "smart" dems realized it needed to be trimmed if even to 744 billion). Yup, thank god for the 300% increase in spending of money America DOES NOT HAVE.

Damn some of you lefties are blinded.

No one can predict what is going to happen. But this economy sure as hell won't fix itself. It's better to do something than "just enough" (whatever the hell that is) it isn't going to cut it.

Economists at best can give a prediction, it's all based on past events. But everything is thrown out of whack now. You and I know this better than most.

Hey dumb shit, look at the posted graph above and that will give you an idea of the lefties spending. :roflpicard:

Also, I can talk because even with a deficit Obama has spent far more in his first 100 days then most presidents do in an entire term! And none the less, all your post says is "I have no argument to the outrageous spending by the Messiah so I'll blame it on bush!"

Sorry, you do not raise taxes during a recession, unless you want to stop the economy cold. That's not opinion-its economic reality.

Understand that we didn't put ourselves (yes, cause we didn't help the economy by buying crap we didn't need)in this mess in just 4 years, and it will take a lot more than another 4 to turn this around.

And please, enlighten us lost sheep as to your conspiracy theory that explains the dastardly plot Obama has to take over the world via lowering taxes and asking for the resignation of GM's CEO?

Or,is it more likely that Obama doesn't want to be remembered as the dude who did nothing while America went broke? Keep in mind,GM would be in bankruptcy court now if the government had simply said 'no' to begin with and let the market do its thing. But of course, had Mr. Prez said 'no' then hed be castrated for *allowing* thousands to be unemployed-despite the honest and cold truth that those people should be unemployed anyways.

So he strings the companies along so that he doesn't look stupid on TV.

No conspiracy here.Just politics.

The conspiracy theory in question is the fact that every Democrat in Washington wants a socialist government so they can have more control over everything. The majority of this country wants the government to take care of them (I really don't know how this idea got into their heads) but the situation we are in makes for a perfect setup to achieve a democrats wet dream. For the record, Rick Wagoner was not "asked" to step down, he was voluntold to step down.

Yep I didn't expect you to incriminate yourself by actually putting out numbers and realizing your FAIL. No balls?

Actually I get you. You're the idiot type to take something like "Obama is spending spending spending" "see the conservatives told you so!"....you're more worried about defending your abandoned party and self esteem.

Too bad bitch. Look who is in control and picking up your mess. Sorry but conservatives have ZERO credibility right now...you can say "credibility" can't you?

Deal with it.

Its not about "Too bad" and "look who is in control, deal with it" type of shit. The guy you voted for won based on "Change" which even leaders from the World are saying is far too outrageous at this point. Most countries damn the spendulus plan that was passed. You've not proved anything more then that your alright with the stupid spending by Obama. Its not "the conservatives told you so" as if you open your own eyes and see the reality! Has this 744 billion stimulated anything? No it invested in pet projects of the left (and some right) that are intended for large businesses. Please tell me when big spending and bigger government has EVER been a good thing?

None the less, your little more of a political debater then you are a complete blubbering kid. Instead of posting anything but media bullshit and whiny posts you could actually make a post with a fact or two.

I'm sorry, did a conservative say something? I didn't hear because it really doesn't matter. Here's some advice, get more people in your party elected....(I know, pretty much impossible after the whole George W. Bush fuckup)...and then you can have a voice in government again. And maybe just maybe your whining will carry a little bit of muscle.
The GOP is well on it's way to being irrelevant for the next 20 years....you better do something about it!!

How about getting back to patriotism and taking care of our country. Half of our problem that most of the senators that are in Washington have been there for 30 years!!! The whole situation with elections suck because we have to choose the lesser of two evils (which I don't believe does any real good). Complaining and endless bickering are going to get us nowhere unless we take the time to really do something about it.
Another fact, this whole situation started well before Bush so let's make sure we are taking every president into consideration for everyone that wants to blame the situation solely on him.

Oh my fucking god. I tried reading your post and you can't even use "your" or "nonetheless" correctly. Got intelligence? Seriously kid, you can't even speak English. :roflpicard:

Guess what....do we have big government? Yes? Well who the fuck has been in power for the last 8 years? Uh oh, you're confused now.:roflpicard:

Leaders of the world hate Obama! Yes!! They want the ol' village idiot back in the White House!! Pay attention to world sentiment much? No, of course not, lol.:roflpicard:

Why does Obama have to spend so much?
Sorry but you've been living under a rock if you can't answer that....:roflpicard:

My g/f and I were talking about the situation with Rick Wagoner and she brought up a good point. All the US gov't did was inject cash into the company, they didn't buy shares or anything else so why is the gov't acting like they own and run GM? The board of directors are the ones who make the decisions on what happens with their company and they are acting like a pawn. No one on the board has the balls to step up and say fuck off, this is our company and we will do as we see fit to run everything. I think something happened behind closed doors that no one will discuss (unless we hear about it in a book that is published after their death) because when the President of the United States asks you to do something, you have two choices, do as you are voluntold or say no at your own peril. I think the best option for GM is to go bankrupt so it will release them from the contracts that are bleeding them dry (i.e. UAW) and they can start all over again and run the company without fear from unions or the government. This is a free country and WE give the power to the government, not the other way around.

What countries, Brittian did a 1 trillion dollar bailout when we did a 700 billion one a little over a year ago, I forgot which, but one other country said their bailout was unlimited....... Everyone is doing it, right or wrong

The gov't is giving them loans, the funny part about threatening bankruptcy, is afterwords, they probably won;t have to pay back these loans we are propping them up with right now......

You bring up a good point about the board of directors though, you can't only blame Wagoneer for GM's downfall, if he makes a decision, and the board overthrows him, there is nothing he can d, so there may have been other people fucking over GM, and him just along for the ride...... We will never know....
