So I had this bright idea to make a kitchen table, benches, chairs, and stools for the new house. Walnut furniture is stupid expensive and I figured I could do it for less and get a better end product. Piece of cake! (Not)

I sourced the wood and was smart enough to realize a nice finished product was beyond my tools and skill level. So had it finished locally. Fantastic decision.

The frame I decided I wanted out of metal so I could powder coat it to match the kitchen hardware instead of the typical white wood frames. Again, sounded easy.

greasy greasy is a Saint and came out to lend a hand and his welding skills a couple days. We made some solid progress and I’ll keep picking away at this project that was supposed to be quick and easy.

I'm starting to build a bar in my basement. So far I bought the bar rail and am about to pick up the rest of the materials in the next week. My fiancé's parents are coming into town for the holidays so I hope to make some good headway soon with help from her Dad. Maybe I'll start a separate thread but I'm terrible with project threads.

Just take lots of photos and figure out the rest when you’re done

Currently mocking up my barn office where I'll put all my work shit. Love being in the house but the kid constantly coming in while I'm on calls and trying to work and he wants to press the keyboard isnt conducive to working. So I need a dedicated "office" somewhere and "going to work" everyday by walking into the barn suffices.

Think that east exterior wall I’ll put in a 48” window so I have a view outside. Maybe throw a small window on that north interior so I’m not in a confined box all day as well.

Make it bigger
Well the barn posts are roughly 10' from each other so squaring it off like this makes life simple. I thought about doing maybe 20x10 and have a lounge area for the boys who don't visit me anyway. Having a "man cave" in there would be nice but I don't REALLY wanna tie it in with work... I don't know. The thought has crossed my mind. I just wanted to get my ideas down on paper before another project takes my attention.

I think going bigger NOW is the better route. You could add the man cave later, without having to open it up and expand.

Finished up landscape lighting along the back of the yard.... Came out pretty nice for some Home Depot special low voltage lights....

Theyre not as bright as the pictures make them look, but light up the back of the yard nicely.
Gonna bump this. How are the lights holding up?
I’d like to see some pictures of others peoples landscape lighting because I’m really getting into this

I haven't been able to do much on the table I'm working on. I did sand everything down and got to 220 grit. I put the tabletop together with glue and screws. Just need to get time to add wood conditioner and stain it. I have an idea what I'm gonna do for the base/bottom. Hopefully it works out. But I'm hoping this week everything will be complete (when I can find the time). The image is with the tabletop upside down just after I put it together. Damn top itself is heavy. I have to make sure it can take a beating from the kids.

So I haven't done an update....

So after I put the tabletop together I decided to set the table on fire. The base I did a full char and scraped everything off with a nylon brush. The bottom of the tabletop I did the same thing except I scraped everything off with a brass brush. The top of the tabletop I just burnt the grain. I then did 4 coats of finish for the base and 4 coats for the tabletop. I added some clear "glass" epoxy to the deep knots that would trap crumbs and whatnot.

I will be doing the benches the same pattern/style as the table but will be doing a project with the old dining room table. Going to clean it up and cut it down a bit and use it as a computer desk for the winter in my bedroom so that I can day trade inside the house instead of doing all my trading in the garage.

God only knows how many years the humidifier hasn’t been working. I was in the basement and noticed no water was draining from the humidifier. Time for a new solenoid…

I’ve replaced mine twice in the six years. i found that letting it cycle a few times each month keeps it working. Mine is normally wired to the first heating stage, so in the spring I move it to the cooling stage, then turn the humidifier control to off, and just flip it on for a day or two. Humidity doesn’t build up that quick.
