Ordered everything to redo our balcony next weekend, but had a few questions about installing turf.

We have a small balcony with wood flooring I’ll be installing turf on. What’s the best way to install it? A lot of people on YouTube and blogs suggest to nail or staple it right into the wood with some adhesive along the edges. Does that seem right?

Also the turf I bought specifically said it allowed drainage, but should I use any kind of drainage tile or something else under it to protect the wood or will it be fine?

Partially posted in the bored thread but bought a trailer Tuesday to be able to pick up my General today. Trailer has no brakes and no fucking way am I towing a 2000lb machine on a trailer with no brakes.

Lippert axle, so I just ordered some Lippert e-brakes from them. Got the hubs pulled off and drums swapped over.

My current hell. Rewiring from 4-pin to 7-pin. Took me longer to fish the two pairs of new brake wires through the stupid frame than it did to actually put the brakes and drums on. Just using a junction block in case I put a cable in the wrong spot. Can just pop it off and move it instead of soldering everything together and now I’m fucked. Will allow me to add in things easier anyway (winch, battery tender, whatever I may add that requires 12V auxiliary).

Jesus... My dudes dump trailer I borrow is 4k.

Then I fill it with 10k of stone and the brakes don't work on it. :ROFLMAO:
It trailered the hour and a half home pretty well with no brakes. I just feel way more comfortable with the trailer providing minimal assistance, just enough to control itself. My buddy almost crunched his SUV when his clamshell sled trailer slid out as he stopped for a red going down a hill in the UP. Granted, that was on snow. Gunned it through the red to straighten it back out. That was ~1000lbs sleds+trailer. I ain’t fucking around with a 2000lb side by side + 1000lb trailer.

Anyway, some how, some way, I wired up the box perfectly correct the FIRST time. Was a god damn Christmas miracle. Had to crank on the adjustment screws for 20 minutes because it would feel like the brakes would finally grab just spinning the tire, then get zero feedback from the controller

Finished our patio and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Before images are a few posts up.
I know it's small, but a sacrifice I'm willing to make for living downtown. My girl absolutely loves it already, I'm sure we'll be spending a lot of time out here over the summer.

All in probably $600 including chairs, grill, lights and the materials.

Nice and I'm surprised they let you grill out there vs having a "common grilling area". I know a lot of places in the city that dont allow grilling on their patios that arent ground level

South of Wisconsin.
Not a fancy or involved DIY but hey.. I cleaned out the tank on this, removed and cleaned the glass, trimmed the wick, and it was good to light. There are pictures of my great great grandparents driving from MI to FL in 1923. we have their travel diary and photo album from the trip and this lamp was with them and seen hanging in their model T. Kinda cool.

Took my time getting around to making the benches for the dining room table I made for my wife. Finally made a couple of them and here's the photo dump of the project.

Got the lumber and started the cuts; 1x2s, 1x3s, 2x2s, 2x6s.

More cuts

20230403_131843.jpg

Started the sanding process (grits used: 120, 150, 220)

20230405_200541.jpg

20230408_101740.jpg

Started the piecing them together for the legs/base of the bench.

Part of the end pieces coming along.

End pieces completed (they're upside down)

Got them all put together for the base of the bench. Still a lot of work left to do....

Like set it on FIRE ???

Nice and charred!

20230526_055417.jpg

Now to brush off the char and to sand some more.

Now time to char the bottom just as I did the table top.

And Burn the grain on the topside
20230601_194541.jpg

Then piece together

Ending is near... Time for the topcoat. (I did lightly sanded with 220 after brushing off the char and between each coat of topcoat).

There you have it. Easy to make but time consuming as there's so much sanding in every corner and point. Full char, sand, air compress and wipe down dust, seal, sand, wipe down, seal, sand, wipe down, seal, sand, wipe down, then mount seat part of bench to base. I used corner (or "L") brackets to mount the seat to the base and added rigidity and support to the cross brace on the base.

I already have another project lined up for my mom. Will buy some materials tomorrow after work.

More previous owner jank wiring all fixed up. Dude LOVED running extension cords in the wall. This is #2.

Microwave took a shit. When we removed it, we found the previous owners GENIUS way to hook up their microwave.

Instead of putting an outlet in the cabinet above, they decided to knock a 10"x4" hole behind it, run a 6' extension into the wall for the outlet below and backsplash OVER the hole it comes out of so you can't remove it and then use a power strip for the over because both plug wouldn't fit in the outlet...

IMG_20230627_213557_662.jpg

They did all that jank ass shit to find out the outlet on the bottom, is fed from ceiling, going right past the huge hole they made and the cabinet above  Pure laziness to not do it proper.

Pink was the hole location where they stuffed the microwave extension and cord.. Brown are the studs, yellow the feed for the outlet below.

Intercepted the wire, ran a new one from the outlet above to below, hooked everything up and done!

We found shit like that in my house, in fact my garage still has an extension cord hooked up like that. I could literally fix it in 10 minutes, but its a "conversation piece" as I like to call it lol

(photo dump time)

I probably should start making my own thread for my projects, but that next project I mentioned I was going to start.... is DONE.

A chicknic table. A small picnic table for chickens. My mom asked me and I delivered. I unfortunately didn't do everything I wanted to do but I think it's good enough.

The materials. I already cut it before I took a pic of what I was going to use. Mostly 1x3 and a couple pieces of 1x6
20230622_161905.jpg

20230622_161959.jpg

Unfortunately I forgot to take pics as I was making the table top part of the project. It's basically a "tray" as the top of the table. I also mounted the legs before I remembered to take more pics.
20230627_201225.jpg

20230627_201236.jpg

Trying to gauge how it'll look with the seat part of the table. It was either a 1x6 piece or 2 pieces of 1x3 spaced out. I opted for the single piece of wood.
20230628_172103.jpg

20230628_172110.jpg

Here I cut the pieces of wood holding the seat. Decided to use angles instead of it being squared. It gives it a cleaner look.
20230701_141252.jpg

20230701_141304.jpg

And mounted/screwed in the seats to the rest of the table.
20230701_150817.jpg

20230701_150823.jpg

20230701_150839.jpg

Here I started to make a top for the table that would kind of help protect the chicken feed from either other animals or the outside elements
20230701_200749.jpg

20230701_200803.jpg

20230701_204814.jpg

I installed a support going across the table. Obviously the table doesn't need it but it's also for looks.
20230701_204809.jpg

Time to start taping things off for the stain

20230704_124141.jpg

I think at this point I already put on another coat of stain and I'm starting to seal it.

I had to add a little detail. This was originally going to go on the top but since I scrapped that idea I placed it in the table
20230706_200029.jpg

20230706_200110.jpg

I guess I hit the upload limit within a post. But after I placed the decal, I sealed it with a few more coats.

Here's the remainder. I added trim around the inside before sealing the decal. It was originally supposed to be part of the top/lid project.
20230707_053957.jpg

20230708_054814.jpg

20230708_054937.jpg

20230708_054823.jpg

And this is part of when I started the top but figured I probably wouldn't have the time since my mom leaves back to Texas in a couple days and I have to work
20230706_200203.jpg

What I was going to do was add some trim pieces of wood to the inside of the top/lid to fit snuggly inside and the trim would have rested on top of the inside trim. I was also going to add trim around the lid that would have wrapped around the table top. Lastly I was going to add a couple decorative handles to the top/lid and it would have been painted white with the decal centered.
