Ran over to the local OReiley’s and picked up a mother polish ball and tried again to get that exhaust junk off the tips.

Adams Iron-X, twice.
APC twice and scrubbed with a stiff brush
did 2 passes with the paint polish on the tips before it started to get a warm so I stopped there, I think it’s good enough for me.

I for some reason thought the cat backs for these cars didn’t really improve the sound. But just went through a bunch of videos and this one and the Borla actually sound like a noticeable increase and good tone w/o being too loud.

They don't really add power but they definitely add sound. They're just so fixing expensive.

Yeah, last exhaust I purchased was for the Mach 1 and I think long tubes, x-pipe and catback cost me around $900 total lol.

I want to do exhaust but not sure which route to go. Downpipe is instantly another $1200 in tuning and if I keep the car for another 5 years when my first emissions test is due it’ll likely fail since they do visual and sniffer test here. But like you said catback is no power and $700+.

Black exhaust tips will look great on your car. I added some black slip on tips to mine, and love the way they look a year later. Plus, so much easier to maintain!

At least your car is new so you don’t have to fight any corroded bolts. I did my springs at 1000 miles and it was real easy.

too late for cold start, don't want to deal with removing a hot exhaust. My goal is to have it done so I can come out to Wheaton on Saturday so you can hear it IRL.

I'm not very good at mechanical stuff, only really done the basics (oil change, brake job). I've helped on springs/struts change and oil pan gaskets with seasoned mechanics back in the day. Most complex thing I've ever done was swapping out the stock Intercooler on the 93 MR2 with a giant ARC Intercooler, with the engine in the car. I should have had the shop that did the swap do the IC while the engine was out, but I didn't think that far in advance. The IC took me hours to get it out of the car and the new one in.

Got the stock exhaust off relatively easily. Struggled with the rear hangers and sort of gave up, since I did this on my lunch hour. Will pick up after I’m done working with those hangers and getting the rest of the catback on. I put the first section on already and have it hang tight. The last 2 sections I can’t do until I got their hangers off the stock exhaust.

Some WD-40 on the hanger bushings should help.
Yeah, I threw some on there before coming back inside to finished working. Once I'm off work I'll tackle this some more, I was hot and sweaty by the time I got the stock exhaust off. I'll spray it again before trying to get them off and this exhaust done!

I have the EDM TCR Clubsport rear diffuser on order, since mid April’s after I bought this car. It keeps getting delayed, so once I get that and install it, I’ll mess with the tips again then to align them to that. No sense in going crazy now just to redo it later.
