For sure. I have both like 5 mins from each other and Menard's, even with an outdoor yard vs HDs indoor, has better product all the time. HD must source their shit from China.

Yup. It's like they store it outside in Florida, send it to AZ to dry so it looks like a Lays potato chip, and then send it to the stores. It's crazy.

For larger projects like this, I always prefer to get lumber from a lumber yard. Imo, their quality is worth the extra few bucks its going to cost you. Lumber yards though are a dying breed

No kidding. My local lumberyard is likely closing up this month. I went in to order a double 32"x8' door with half glass solid oak. And they wouldn't order it because they won't be open by the time it comes in. Now my next closest place is menards the next town over.
