I guess the guys at mustang source have been hard at work getting premium GT gauges working in any 2011+ base GT. So heres what we know so far.

To get 2011/12 premium gauges to work in 2011/12 base GT you will just need the gauges and a VIN for a premium GT. You can order the gauges from Tousley no questions asked, and they will program the miles at your word before they ship. Then when you are ready to install them(10 minute job), you take the car to the dealer before you do. They will do the swap, then reprogram the car with the PATS info are you are DONE.

To get 2013/14 premium GT/w track apps or Boss gauges with track apps to work in 2011/12 base GT you will need a 2013/14 ABS module from brembo car(for the track apps to work), 2013 vin number, steering wheel buttons ($19 from tousley and they snap right into your stock wheel). Alternatively you can order and install a new BOSS or GT500 steering wheel with the track apps rocker switches already installed. Same procedure except you need to get that ABS module installed and programmed with the gauges.

To get the 2013/14 premium gauges installed in a base 2013/14 GT all you need are the gauges and the button for the steering wheel if you already have a brembo car. If you you dont, you will also need the brembo car ABS module to get the track apps to work. If you no care about track apps, the gauges are plug and play for all years. You wont need the buttons either if you no care track apps.

Very cool stuff that they have been researching and testing. Swapping out those base gauges really dresses up the inside of the car. Also being able to use the track apps and all the menu items plus the my color now really makes driving the car a pleasure.

2013/14 gauges are $800 shipped from tousley with no core. They will accept your base gauges any year as a core and you get $300 back. They also sell the 13 boss wheel for like $250 and its all alcantara. Post questions here. Im going to do the 14 GT base to premium gauges swap very soon. All I will need are the gauges, buttons and to have the dealer reprogram them to work with the premium car VIN.

I'll be doing this along with the boss wheel. I'm having an upholstery shop do the shift and e-brake boot in alcantara.

Explain?

I think the wheel might be worth it, but why $800 for the gauges?

To answer your question.....

The Ford Mustang delivers more performance inside the cabin, thanks to new technologies and features for the 2013 model year aimed at making the drive even more fun.

“Mustang stays fresh by keeping pace with everything going on in the tech world,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. “We are taking all the technology people are used to using and finding ways to integrate it into Mustang, based on enthusiasts’ feedback.”

An available new 4.2-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) productivity screen positioned between the tachometer and speedometer helps customers track information related to fuel economy and vehicle performance. The menu is navigated through a five-way button on the steering wheel.

Unique to Mustang’s productivity screen is Track Apps, which delivers performance metrics for drivers who want to put their car to the test at the track.

An accelerometer shows the g force the car is pulling from left to right. Drivers can also track their fastest times with the acceleration timer screen, which offers 0-30 mph, 0-60 mph, 0-100 mph, eighth-mile and quarter-mile. Both an automatic start and a countdown start, complete with drag racing start light, are available.

The brake performance screen indicates stopping time and distance for 60-0 or 100-0. The view/clear results screen lets drivers take a look at their top times including their all-time best. They can also review their last results and saved results from the acceleration timer and brake performance screen.

“We took advantage of sensors that are already on the vehicle to give customers information they would have to pay extra for in the aftermarket,” said Jeff Seaman, Mustang launch leader. “They have more data at their fingertips than ever before.”

Using these base menu options, owners can see and customize the following information:

Gauge mode: Checking temperature/engine operation

Air-to-fuel ratio
Cylinder head temperature
Inlet air temperature
Oil temperature
Transmission temperature
Trip computer: Counting the miles

Information on two trips available
Trip time and mileage
Gallons of fuel used and miles per gallon
Fuel economy: Up-to-the-second information

Fuel history can be broken down to three time periods
Five resets are available to track fuel history
Fuel economy displays miles to empty as well as average and instantaneous miles per gallon
View/clear results

Settings

Set steering feel – sport, standard or comfort
Update MyColor
Set MyKey®
Turn features on or off
Change duration of lamps
Change operating condition for maintenance schedules
Set oil life percentage
Information: Navigate and view warnings

System check screen displays information such as oil life, engine hours, engine idle hours and open doors
Warnings, such as “Left door ajar,” can be displayed graphically

Seems like its worth the $500(after core return) for all these features we missed by getting a base car.

Also The Beast, the dealer should only need to charge one hour of labor to do the swap and reprogram pats. The gauge swap is a 10 minute job tops. The bezel pops off and there are like 4 or so screws holding the whole thing in there(glass and all). Very cool if you ask me. And If I get the boss wheel, it will top it all off nicely. I have a premium wheel though since its standard now for 13/14, but I will still need the buttons($19). Also minutes to install. I dont think this is all that expensive for what you are getting. And Eagle the base rubbermaid steering wheel is just dying to get replaced with a boss wheel. If you go with the 11/12 premium gauges, all you need is the 12 boss wheel. If you want the 13/14 gauges, then you need the 13 boss wheel that has the better buttons. Both still alcantara.

This guy installed 13 Boss 302 gauges in his 13 base GT. Easy process now that you can do at home if you buy the Ford flash tool or the dealer can do in one hours worth of labor.

We reflashed the PCM and lost our custom tune on the car. Had to use the hand held SCT device and reload the custom tune.
Tested and drove and everything is working great.
It is now a pretty easy swap to start with a '13 Base model GT

Plug n Play with the Steering wheel switch >

Through IDS run Program Module Installation >
Instrument Panel Cluster >
Module Programming >
Body >
PATS erase >
PATS reset >

Module Programming >
AsBuilt
(720-01-01) enter asbuilt for premium or boss w/track apps
(720-02-01) enter asbuilt for premium or boss w/track apps
wahlah.....

crappy phone video of the cluster working:
