I mean, I think a Barbie movie has its place and has a potential for a huge market. It just looks like it's an (very) adult tier comedy. Which makes it an odd choice to me.
My wife asked me 4 times to take her. I knew there was no way out after that. We went to the "luxury" theater and drank Cap'n and Diet Cokes while reclining. The movie, surprisingly, made me laugh several times. It's all about how girls play with Barbies. Has some social commentary but they don't take themselves too seriously. If you go into it with the right frame of mind, you may enjoy it. Tons of big actors. The women in the crowd loved it. I don't want to post spoilers but there are some really funny lines.
My brother said it's man hating propaganda and Cliff says it's good. This must be an alternate universe I'm in at the moment.
The movie doesn't take itself too seriously. I didn't mind the Ken jibes. You have to have the right Barbie frame of mind.
Agreed. I think some people are taking it way too seriously. I really didn't comprehend the movie as man hating. There were some jabs that I just thought were funny. Obviously there is going to be some feminism in a Barbie movie, but I think calling it man hating is a stretch. Moreso I saw it poking fun at guy stereotypes.
haven't seen it but am curious to. my understanding is there's a mix of feminism and caricatures of feminism, and stupid people on the left or right don't seem to recognize when one is happening vs. the other.
I know chicks that say it's awful and you shouldn't let kids see it, and I know chicks that have gone twice with or without their kids. I'm not gonna give a shit either way unless it's this.
This is a pretty spot on assessment. Some are really reaching hard to make this movie something that it really isn't.
Or maybe I'm just dumb and it went over my head lol. Either way it was a fun night out at the drive in theater with my gf. I've been laughing at the few articles I've seen with headlines like "Barbie Movie Responsible For Couples Breaking Up". If a couple can't handle a movie poking fun at cliches and stereotypes with some feminism thrown in, that relationship wasn't going to last anyhow.
Since seeing it, my wife and her friends do this incessantly. Its enough...lol

my wife dragged me to see this as she was a huge barbie fan growing up, I thought most of the movie was pretty stupid, granted it's about a doll that pre teen girls play with. I recognize this movie isn't made for me.
However my wife thought the movie was pretty terrible as well, which totally surprised me. This movie had a lot of those stupid humor undertones which both the wife and I don't care for. Think dumb and dumber and the like, it's just not our style.
