🔧 BUILD FESTER665's 1993 Foxbody Cobra build - Coyote/Tremec incoming - 22 years in the making.

General Information

Of course as with most things, it's a slow build in progress. I will usually get comments ranging from "it looks great!" to "You're ruining that car!" but since you'll never make everyone happy, I just do what I want to do to it. :headbang:

Year: 1993
Make/Model: Mustang Cobra #235
Specs: Teal/Opal Gray leather
Numbers: 310 RWHP/308 RWTQ
1/4 mile time: 13.04 @ 104.6

I bought the car in 1998 with 24k miles on it. It now has 54k on it. It's a slow work of progress that I hope to have done in the next three years. I'm hoping I'll actually get to have it out this summer with the new motor in it, but it's depending on finances at this point.

Here's the car before I had any work done on it:

Some people hate this, but it's been on so long I just leave it on:

Put in white faced gauges and a 5" tach.... Debating going to a white faced tach, or changing the gauges back to black though..... Also ditched the horse on the dash and put a cobra there instead....

Then I slowly made my way under the hood doing a few bolt-ons here and there.... My A/C compressor locked up so instead of replacing it I just moved the P/S to where it used to be.

:unsure:wire up electrical?

Either way im just happy to see it getting work done.

Been working on it as well....

Might end up buying the entire new harness setup from American Autowire just to not be dealing with 30 year old harnesses, but we‘ll see how the current harnesses go.

Spent a few hours starting to break down the original harness to remove unnecessary wires, and get it all cleaned up but am finding a few wires that Im not too thrilled with so I will be ordering that new harness next week.

I will start salvaging connectors off this one now though so when the new harness arrives I can get to work on it.

Just put your grunts at work to work and build your own harness.

The amount of time spent trying to source the right terminals and connectors to make the harness would be just too much.

As it is the AAW harness requires you to salvage a few factory connectors to get it to work because the connectors are no longer made.

Luckily I have the crimpers and everything needed so that'll save me some money. I'll just order the new harness and make it look as good as possible. It'll be nice to not have to worry about a broken wire or something stupid like that while trying to trace a problem if there are any when it's done.

While waiting for parts, I wanted to take some time and have some "cheap insurance" on the engine while it is open so I made a few changes on it this morning.....

Popped the timing chains back off the engine, and installed the following parts:
  • New Chain Guides
  • New Tensioner Guides
  • BOSS302 Tensioners
  • GT350 Timing Chains
  • MMR Oil Pickup Tube
  • New windage tray / oil pan gasket
  • Clearanced a timing cover for all of the PBH components
  • All new gaskets throughout

If I had the chance to go back, I likely would have found a newer F150 motor and put some Comp Stage 3 cams in there at this point. I didnt want to get that deep into this at first, but since I essentially swapped everything in the front of this thing except for the cams, at this point I likely would have been better off going F150 and buying new cams for it and had been at around the same price point.

In either case, I am still waiting away for a bunch of parts since everything seems to have been Covid-19 delayed. Progress is being made, just slowly.

Car is at the body shop getting the engine bay smoothed out. I’m headed there Saturday morning to bring them some money and to see what else they recommend like if I should replace the core support or anything like that.

Hoping to get a better idea on timeframe for this stage to be done before it goes to Streetcar Shenanigans to start getting more of the work done. After the engine bay, SS will be doing all the hydraboost lines, brake lines, replacing subframe connectors, painting the underside, and fuel system.

Gotta see if they’re going to want to handle all the interior and wiring or if it’ll come back to me for all that and then they finish the install.

Also going to have the body shop take a better look at the car to get a price on painting the entire car if money allows at the end of the project.

Shawn1112 Shawn1112 when you go see the guys working on your shit, what do you do, float some money to buy the guys lunch?
