Job Description

The Assistant Photo Editor will be primarily responsible for maintaining the post-production workflow of original, internally-produced photo shoots. Secondary responsibilities include handling production overflow, which includes photographing cars for reviews and other automotive photojournalism projects, as well as maintaining our image database with the most current and accurate images available. The ideal candidate should have strong organizational skills and the ability to self-manage workflows and anticipate team needs. These qualities are equally important as photographic experience.

Responsibilities include:
Shooting:
During heavy deadlines, and when Senior Photo Editor is traveling, the Assistant Photo Editor will need to ensure photo production moves forward.
  • Scheduling shoots
  • Shooting photos
  • Working with News team on breaking news and special projects
  • Prioritize development of fresh, original content
Post-production:

  • Download, curate, edit, and archive internally-produced photo shoots:
  • Car/Truck reviews
  • Multi-Car Challenges
  • Auto Shows
  • Special Projects
Photography archive and photo database management:
  • Use internal applications to keep photography assets up to date and accurately archived
  • Acquire, resize and upload OEM and internally-produced images into database
  • Update and maintain database of 360 panoramic videos
  • Maintain spreadsheet of database assets and report weekly on updates/status
  • Video Assistance
  • Help maintain online library of video assets for affiliated TV stations
  • Help with video editing as needed

Required Skills
  • Self-starter and able to manage own workload
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Able to handle massive quantities of files and keep everything well organized and easily searchable
  • Anticipates the needs of the team and takes initiative to solve problems
  • Resourceful, highly organized and capable of multi-tasking
  • Strong problem-solving skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong photography editing skills
  • Fluent in both Mac and PC platforms
  • Demonstrated fundamental skills in photographic production and post-production

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Photography or Digital Media
  • 1-2 years of professional experience
