So we're 5 in and I have to say it's not bad at all. It's not exactly like the old show but it's totally entertaining and much like the original, it's the details that make it funny.

The method one clinic, anustart... Different yes but it's far from bad and certainly not terrible, at least not the 5 we've watched.

To each their own...but the jokes fell flat, the acting had no emotion and the story was worthless. Just wait for the final episode.

I admit, it turned around a bit around ep 10 (as I said) but I have zero desire to ever go back to watching it again.

Maybe my opinion comes from essentially watching the first 3 seasons 4 times over the course of two weeks (thanks IFC). Go back and watch the seasons in order and you will agree, 4 sucked.

The whole show just felt like it lacked any enthusiasm. Jeffrey Tambor & Jessica Walter were a real letdown. Jessica seemed to have like 10 lines and they all sucked...and Tambor lacked any of his character's charm from s1-3...him being a "pussy" the whole show was a waste of his character.

Haven't watched anymore since episode 3. The main tv in our house is not setup for Netflix so its a real pain in the ass. I have tomorrow off so I'll probably finish it up.

All of this. The fact that we don't see Gob or Tobias with speaking roles for the first 10 episodes is a huge mistake. Lindsay doesn't need her own episode, nor does Lucille. What made the original series great was how everybody interacted with each other and revolved around Michael. I can't remember Tobias and Michael being in the same scene together in season 4, or at least for nothing memorable.

Few TV shows have kept the same vibe after being brought back from the dead. Firefly is the only one I can think of with the Serenity movie. Futurama sucked, as did Family Guy after they brought it back. I would have rather them waited a few years until everyone could make time for a proper Arrested Development reunion instead of halfheartedly do it like this.

I'm only through episode 7, the first episode was an absolute mess. Jumped around everywhere, didn't understand what was going on half the time. I was also a little disgusted with Seth Rogen and Kristen Wiig. Just seemed like they raised their hand and said "ME, ME, ME, I want to be in it!" Rogen's acting is crap and over the top, Wiig is fine but doesn't really do anything for me. Would have been better off making Tambor and Walter look younger, like they usually do.

However, once I was through episode 3, it seemed to get much of its older feel back, at least a little bit. I am definitely not a fan of the individual story episodes, I guess I understand it from a logistical standpoint getting the actors actually together, but I would much rather have had them take the time, and schedule them together so the writers wouldn't have to write around schedules, and could actually focus on a coherent story. I'm giving it a C through 7 episodes, not great, but I've seen worse rebirths.

Also have to disagree with Bru on the Futurama comeback, while they weren't amazing, and they tried way to hard recycling jokes over and over, they were still very entertaining.

Can we all at LEAST agree that Tony Hale's portrayal of Buster was way off? His voice was too high pitched and corny and his body movements were forced. I think his performance was the biggest letdown.

Not really. He plays both characters and they look identical. There's still one that's strong and one that's a pussy and the only difference between them is the name. It just so happens to be reversed now. If they made George a pussy and kept Oscar as one too then I'd see your point.

Maybe I'm just getting caught up on the word "terrible". Different, yes. Not as good as the original? Yes. Terrible? No, not even close. It's still very entertaining. Terrible is just such a strong word though. They could have mailed it in and still made millions but they didn't and there's a bunch of stuff so far in the first 5 episodes that had us laughing out loud. This show could have been sooooooo much worse though.

That and a lot of the hilariousness is in the details and the misunderstandings like the Methodone clinic, Tobias sitting behind Lindsay on the plane, Michael thinking he's plowing Ron Howard's girlfriend, James Lipton with the iPad...

I mean yeah, it's a bit lost some times and other times it's entirely too complex but I think it's a good watch.

I took a look at reviews, some of which were pretty scathing regarding the complexity and the show's slow start, but nothing goes so far as to say it's terrible and most of the reviews rate the show quite positively.

I realize I'm arguing opinion here but geez guys, I'm not sure what you were expecting. I had high (but managed) expectations and I haven't been disappointed so far.

These are lazy jokes man. Plain and simple. They lack ANY of the wit and charm and even complexity of the previous seasons.

Maybe terrible is a strong word to use...I'll change it to disappointing...the same way a father would tell his son hes "disappointed" in him. Thats likely worse actually

I guess my main gripe is that none of the actors seemed like they wanted to be there...there was just ZERO heart behind 95% of the lines given. Everyone just felt very flat and "Im just here between movies and hey, its money."

And I realize I'm usually SUPER critical of TV and movies, but this time, I'm being honest. I gave it a fair shot and was insanely excited and then I by the time I finished, I felt more like a rape victim than an excited fan.

Welp, I finished it up last night. (After powering thru 1-3 again over the weekend). Well first off, having to stitch actors together in scenes definitely hurt it the most. Trying to get over how much different everyone looks now was kind of a hurdle also. And it definitely fell flat in a lot of areas.

But there were still laughs to be had. Be it not as many as the original. I did like how everything was tied into everything else. And things you would see in one episode where you would say "wtf was that?" would be explained in another episode. It was a little difficult to follow at times, but i think like the originals, once you once watch everything again youd catch a lot more stuff. Thats one thing that didnt change. They were never meant to be watched just once. They're definitely not better than the originals but I wouldn't call them a complete hot mess. :hsugh:

The individual episodes were weird, and not having all the actors together were definitely its biggest downfall.

I did like the Gob episodes, especially 7  I'd give them another watch, only cuz they'd be a lot easier to follow, and I think I'd catch a lot more the 2nd time.
