I got wind of a sale coming up; sounds like you may be able to buy a brand new M&P Shield for under $300 starting next month (as little as $250! for a 9mm with no thumb saftey), was curious if anyone already owned one and had experience with it? I was pretty dead-set on getting an Springfield XD Mod2, but this is not a dissimilar handgun, and a hell of a price.

Looking to purchase for home defense as my shot gun is not really ideal for room-clearing having a little one on the way, so that need has changed; and it would be nice to have one as double duty for conceal carry as I've wanted to take that as well.

Also curious about anyone with experience with those keypad pistol safes as well? (Brands/recommendations?)

Bought a shield 9 few months ago when they were $299 at Marengo. Took my CC with it a few weeks ago. Nice little gun. I would want and personally use a full frame pistol for home defense. Mo shots mo betta

Oh, and I have a cheap keypad drawer safe and it's been fine. Opens when i need it to. Having to enter a code in the heart of the moment does bother me a little but it's as close as I'm comfortable with. Battery life is good with a key backup

i own the 9mm and have shot the .40. The 9mm is a nice time I have a few hundred rounds in it and it has never failed me. I recommend it to anyone.

I have my Shield 9 that I've done Trijicon HD night sights, Talon grips and an Apex trigger sear on. Love it and it shoots great. Well over 1k rounds through it with no issues. All those upgrades are just from preference and having to tweak everything.

Stock the gun is realiable but the trigger is semi shitty. Just doing the Apex sear instead of the whole trigger kit improves it a lot for a reasonable cost ($45 IIRC).

link?

I have one and love it, for $250 I'd buy another in a heartbeat if it was 9mm no safety.

sidenote: i'll never understand how glock is still selling their guns for $550+ when the M&P's offer the same thing for $425 and under

I'd buy one for 250 just to try it out, never had a m&p

I also have a small night stand safe with the few buttons, gun vault I believe works good

M&P is a very nice gun for the price, I personally liked the Walther PPS 9mm better then then S&W. I like the grip and overall feel of the PPS.

Palmetto had the PT111 Gen 2 9mm for 209 and I bought one because the price was so cheap. Put a couple hundred rounds through it and it's a nice little gun.

The offers from Taurus are sometimes hard to resist, but I'd have to put one through a 500+ round torture test before I'd trust it to do anything other than sit in the safe. The cost of the ammo would negate any savings on the gun, lol

I use the Shield as my EDC, also own a glock 43 and Glock 19. As far as conceal carry the shield is great, but like mentioned above - if you are using it just for home defense I would go with a full size handgun (that is what my 19 is for). Also if you just want home defense check the Maverick 88 12ga shotgun, that is my home defense shotgun. All the Mossberg 500 barrels fit it as well, so you can swap out the short barrel anytime.

I was pretty set on a Shield 9 for so long to have as my CC weapon. I shot my buddies one day at the range and hated it. It's sad because I love my M&R 9 Pro. It's such a solid gun to shoot. That is when I looked again and ended up getting the XDS for my CC weapon.

I also have the Shield and it's a great gun for CC. Very thin and reliable, but the trigger is a bit stiff IMO.

If I were to do it again, I'd definitely pony up for the Performance Center version. Unfortunately when I got mine, Smith's Performance Center guns didn't exist.

I have the Shield in the 9mm, been great so far. Good for CC but fine as something easy to hide in your house too.

I use Hornady FTX rounds in it at home and then FMJ when CC.

I have an 870 already; but once I have a kid in the house, if I am woken up by something and have to go exploring, a shotgun is really not the best thing to have. My upstairs especially has a fairly tight hallway where the bedrooms are, so a long barrel poking out of a doorway would be an easy thing to grab.

The origional idea behind a shotgun as home defense was basically lock my wife and I in the bedroom with it aimed at the door, things change when there are people sleeping in other rooms.
