🔧 BUILD Upside-down M90 GTP build thread

General Information

When your wife gives you permission to build a racecar, you build a racecar.

This is what happened to me. However, all funding for this project comes out of my construction account. I really need a telehandler, so this is very budget friendly. Luckily, I've been stockpiling parts for years. This isn't an overnight build by any means. My goal is to make a 1/4 mile pass with it before the tracks close for the season. I'm taking a risk here and using photobucket for image hosting, so hopefully they don't screw me over again.

So let's start it off. I bought a 04 L26 motor with somewhere north of 100k on it and started to tear it down.

Everything looks good so far. The pistons are really clean. There was some junk sitting in the oil pan, but not much.

I'm not sure. I can't bring it to stall speed.

Idle is about 14 in hg.
I know it’s in the title of the thread but I totally forgot this was a blower car lol, I was buzzed up talking about brining a turbo car up on the converter to build boost last night lol, did you try to just take up up off idle a bit and flash the converter at launch, my car 60’s the hardest from like 1500-1600 rpm and stab it off the light apples to oranges but if you have a stock or zzp converter it should flash pretty good

I didn't try that. I've always had the best luck stalling it up. Plus, with bracket racing, I'm way more consistent stalling it up. But I will have to keep that in mind the next time I go to the track. There is a zzp 2500 stall in the car.

So I've been super vague about the intercooler on this car, and that's not by accident. I was thinking about reproducing these kits, but they are a huge pita to make. So here is what I did.

I welded a plate over the opening of the lim to block it off.

Made some new blower mounts.

Had some machine work done to the exterior of the blower case.

After that, I was able to drop it in upside down.

I cut a hole in the lim for air inlet.

Mocked up the inlet pipe and welded a box over the plate on top of the blower.

Started to mock up my charge pipes. I used and old thrasher nitrous TB spacer for a TB flange.

Welding some of these aluminum charge pipes.

Some welds look decent, some look terrible. Part of my problem is trying to weld 1/2" aluminum with a welder rated for 3/16".

Mocked up the intercooler.
