So the modular Ford v8 started out tiny and progressed to the 5.2 . And still smaller than an "old" sbf . But I can't call it smallblock . Got it .

That is a different engine family.
They started under the Hurricane engine program and it was abandoned. Later picked up agains and called the Boss engine program. Basically their lager cubic inch modular motor program.
I mean, the block itself is small. It's the heads that are gigantic I'd be willing to bet the dimensions for the block alone is very similar to SBF's (can't find any information about block size readily)
I would use the term mod motor before small block though, as it's an evolution of the mod motor.
