this is sitting on the couch where it is but with my phone in zoomooo wide angle mode. that's a 60 on the wall nowand im about 10' from the tv

You can mount it right on the ceiling. It doesn't have to be dropped down a large amount. That is what keystone correction is for.

even still what's it hang down? 10 inches? I don't want to have to duck in my basement with how it's setup. wall opposite my tv has a kitchen down there and so it's kind of a walking area- so do i put it above my couch? i just feel like that'd be distracting.

New projectors can be 4 to 6 inches tall. You could flush mount it to the drop ceiling with a pole going through to a stud. Best place would be to put it over the couch where you wouldnt be walking or over the fridge like was said.

Also your existing tv is mounted too high. :)
