Depends on the tire diameter, rpm you want to cross the traps in, gear in the trans you want to cross the finish line in, 1/8 or 1/4 mile racing and so on.

Typically for 1/4 mile use & 28" tall tires, the 3.15 gear works best with stock intakes and 3.31 with Holley & CJ intakes.
