Figured I'd put this here since I found out about this site from the Sloppy Mechanics Podcast.
This is my 1992 Nissan 300zx. I bought this car 10 years ago for $1500. I was delivering pizzas at the time and saw it in a customer's driveway. I made a comment about it, and a couple weeks later i bought it. The car has had an NA 5.3 with a triple 12 cam, nissan 5 speed, and a stock computer. Smoked horribly and i parted it out. The next time i went with a DIY megasquirt 3x kit, and an lq9 shortblock and l92 top end. I drove this a fair bit, it was really fun. but i parted this out during covid because my friend had a cobalt SS subframe. I sold everything except the long block. This was running the same megasquirt 3 I ran the 6 liter on with flex fuel. I ran a t04e turbo on the ecotec and 15 psi. I hit a rock at a construction site, got an insurance payout, and ultimately decided the swap was cursed. It was a pain in the ass and there was stuff always going wrong. I think part of it was the IAT location. Otherwise, i tacked the internal wastegate closed and it broke open unbeknownst to me. So it didnt spool very well and didnt make any turbo noises. It was so loud haha. I traded the ecotec and megasquirt to a gentleman for a terminator x
Where its at now is in the middle of hopefully a final LS swap. Its running a gen 3 lq4 i rebuilt, l92 top end again, custom cam i spec'd, McLeod RXT twin disc, t56 i rebuilt, and a vsr 7875. I got the shortblock super cheap from a friend. It was a 99 so i swapped the long crank out for a gen 3.5 crank. I was hoping it would balance out ok because the gen 3.5 has heavier rods. Lol. I picked the cam specs based on a David Vizard book i read. It came out pretty close to a chopacabra. Not ideal but it was fun speccing one. The transmission was a 94 that was supposedly good. I bought from a one legged guy. Turns out he was also a liar because it needed to be completely torn down. It ended up being fun, and not too bad. Replaced some stuff and converted it to an ls1 style.
I have a walbro 450 in the tank, might end up running 2 based on how its going haha. I made the hot side out of sched 40 pipe i got from a scrap yard and a flux core welder. I tig welded the downpipe and exhaust from 304 stainless. Its a 4" split to dual 3" with flowmaster fx mufflers. Hoping it sounds good and not too obnoxious. Im about to start on the coolant and charge piping. Im getting my new AC welder tomorrow, so im excited to try that
Thanks for having me here!
