Saltwater pool is still a chlorine pool. It just makes its own chlorine from the chloride in sodium chloride

This is 100% correct. Everytime the chlorine in your pool is used up killing bacteria or whatever it turns into a chloramine (basically dead chlorine). These chloramines build up and can only be removed by burning them up during super chlorination (shocking).

You need a better accountant.

I bought dollar store or Woodmans regular bleach for liquid shock (I think it was like 0.79/gallon prior to the pandemic) and used baking soda for 18 years and pool was crystal clear all the time.

I actually had a full bathroom in the shed and people used the hell out of it. That said, every pool gets pissed in and I liquid shocked it once a week and after every party.

If that was his pool there would be no empty spaces between the bottles.

There was enough yard on the other side for another 3 pools. Lots of cutting.
