You'll have to excuse the fragmented nature of this thread (or what I assume will be fragmented). I've got a lot of thoughts floating in my head but none are organized...so I'll update this throughout the evening as I put thoughts to virtual paper. Don't worry, this isn't a "save TCG!" thread or we need to do better, blah blah. But its more me taking charge of a part of my life and making sure TCG is alive and well for years to come.

This all cropped up as I continue to watch more and more FB groups explode with members, making what seems like money hand over fist, with none of them being overly special. Thats not to say they arent filled with good people, good ideas, etc. But it just proves to me that TCG's growth or lack there of, primarily falls on me for screaming "we need to evolve!", while not evolving myself.

It also brings up a huge mistake I've made over the years....I've always said TCG needs to remain a hobby for me and not a business. Because if it becomes a business, I would end up hating it. But why can't it be both? Why was I so against combing the two? No idea...but I'm going to remedy that. And I want to include everyone from TCG in whats to come. You can choose to benefit from the upcoming changes by just continuing to support like you do or choose to be a part of it, boots on the ground, helping us become something more. I'm happy to have you either way. Both sides play their part.

I'm motivated and I need to not let it go to waste.

Below, I'm going to reserve a bunch of posts and start going over everything rattling around in this peanut side brain.

First and foremost, TCG needs to expand its management team, and I'm not necessarily meaning the forum management. More referring to OUTSIDE the site. I can't do it all on my own and even though I say I need help, I fail to follow through on including people. I'll elaborate.

The site itself basically hums along. There really isn't a big need for "staff" to intervene, especially with all the roadblocks I've put in place to deter bad fellowship lately. I could bring on my more mods or more people to act as fluffers for threads and parts of the site, but its not going to help in the site growing, etc.

SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM

I need help with social. Its possible I'm part of the problem for our FB group not growing basically ever. I thought it was FB being on a downward rend, but other car groups are still BOOMING. So there needs to be something else I / we can be doing.

Speaking of FB, I'm not a part of many groups. I don't like partaking in them and I usually avoid contributing even in discussions I might to. But I know we still have some FB power users on here that are part of a bunch of groups. I need YOU guys to help spread our FB group around, any events I might create, posts, pictures, reshares. I need to blanket the Chicagoland market. Our name needs to be out there and active once more.

Instagram...I started a page for us, began using it and then defaulted back to my personal page. If someone wants to take over our IG page and update it with pics from the site, things posted on FB, etc....that would be awesome. I do believe IG is the quickest way to grow a brand right now. I'm decent with tags but I know I could be doing way better. If someone is an IG pro, holler at me.

CHAPTERS, CREWS, MINOR LEAGUE

We need to start bringing "other crews" under our aging wing. Lots of young folks are starting their own little crews for cruising and meets...the young people we desperately need to keep us going. If we can convince them to join our social media presence and then get them to start showing up to our meets (as well as get invited to theirs), I think we can start to see growth pretty rapidly.

Its already semi happening with our Thursday nights and I've already made some friends in the VW world. Shouldnt be hard for us to start getting cozy with other groups. As we've already discussed, its getting harder for the core TCG members to come out every week, bi weekly, whatever and getting other groups to help lay a base would be great. Puts less stress on me trying to make each meet successful and gives us variety as well.

TCG DOES CHARITIES

It looks like we'll (hopefully) be getting involved with a charity next year, which will of course include fundraising. Its something that has been brought up to me a lot lately and its going to do great things for expanding our brand beyond just a "message board". More details once I actually have something concrete.

MEETS & EVENTS TEAM

We've tried this before with little success, but lets attack it from a different angle. I need members spread out throughout the Chicagoland area to provide recon on potential meet locations, events already happening in the area, those that want to help create and host, etc etc.

We NEED to spread out beyond our usual safe zones. We've got members coming to hang out from Rockford, Chicago, south burbs, everywhere. But rarely do we go out by then. That needs to change. I'll need to help executing this.

This team will also help in creating monthly cruises, lunch and dinner get togethers, whatever else makes sense. TCG needs to be more about community and less about how many threads or posts are made daily. I need to focus on whats made us great, and our meets were them.

Again, I need help executing. I'm already starting to get some thanks to a few folks on here but I want to include more of you.

TRACK DAYS

The plan is to have a Spring and Fall rental for 2021. This year's fall event was great but it definitely could be better. In Spring, I plan on opening up the racer number to 100. With that many cars, Id like to incorporate a hat race, or bracket racing, or something to make the day a bit competitive and exciting.

Id like some help setting such things up. We did a few fun hat races in the past but honestly, I wasn't part of planning those and I think I'd want a team to help build something unique.

AND for those that like road racing, I think it would cool to try and entice more people out to track days. You guys started getting something going maybe 3 or so years back but it never took root.

Much like everything I've said already, I want to build a support network that I can delegate stuff to and know it will get done.

SWAG

I need a steady flow of designs that I can slap on apparel and expand our store and then spam that shit everywhere. I'm "creative" but not enough to make more than like 3 mildly ok designs.

If you're creative and good with PS or you got a buddy that does work, whatever. I want to have a fully stocked door full of awesome stuff from the community.

MEMBERSHIPS

Many of you have chosen to donate or subscribe to the site and I cant thank you all enough. But maybe I can be doing more to get a more steady stream of revenue from the site. Maybe I can put together some type of membership package. Subscribe and get a free shirt of your choice and a sticker. Hook it up on discounts at shops for subscribing members. I dunno. I haven't thought this through much yet but if TCG could finally help support me after 13 years, haha, better now than never.

I'll think on this more. Open to suggestions.

Sell clothes. Sell tickets for events, etc. Things I'm already doing with little success [emoji23]
Ya know, I’d like a window sticker/decal for the car and truck. But the ones I last saw were kind of large. Not that I don’t want to advertise or stand out, but with a power rear slider window on the truck it can’t be too large.
