Can I improve from Autolite 104s?

So going from TR5s gapped at .060 to TR6s at .040 on my 5.3L seem to have made a difference already. I also may have had a bad wire connection. I had to take them on and off a shitload of times when trying to get my headers to fit so I think I damaged a wire in the process. I repaired it with some pliers and with the new plugs its a completely different truck. Throttle response is better, low end tq seems better, and for some reason it even seems to be shifting differently. Could the bad wire connection put a bigger draw on the alternator? It wasn't dropping volts at idle anymore either, but that could have just been a fluke, the real test will be when I put the plow back on.

Can't wait to get it on the dyno and have Brandon really max it out!

Ive come across at Napa that my system says .060 and really the LSX/Truck motors with the individual coil packs should run .040.

On my last couple 3800's and 3100's (junk) I have ran autolites and liked em. but i run the gap at .055. I was having an idle issue with my 99 3100 and ran the gap down and it ran alot better. Same for my olds and the same for my 9C3.

When my car was mildly modded (3.4), it actually ran best with Bosch +4's.

Once I got into heavier mods they sucked balls though.

I don't remember the item # for them, but if you go to the CGP parts list they are the ones that are 1 heat range colder...in fact I got about 40K to 50K miles out of each set.

I have heard bad things from bosch and dont even off them to people unless its OE. The four tip design loses alot of energy IMO because the tips are not conected. those new "diamond fire" ones look interesting but seen on CGP that theyre shit. I just stick with Autolights for my personal car and factory OE shit for others. And thats how I sell to. People ask for autolights on gm cars but I always sell them on factory delcos

TR6 Iridums..... better gas mileage than the normal TR6's, 104's, 103's, and cut back 103's... No increase in knock vs the 104's, at least in my car.... I have about 35k on the current set, and they are still clean when I pull em to check on em, If your worried about the temp, ZZP or sparkplugs.com sells a TR7 iridum, and a TR8 iridum

I read an article somewheres about how you aren't supposed to run Bosch plugs with our ignition systems.

It's a crapshoot...our ignition systems are finicky. They need a certain amount of resistance and balance because of the waste spark.

If you have access to try several plug types it's good to experiment to find out what works for you. Generally iridiums and platinums are not preferred. The factory uses them as OEM since the tips stay hot and because of that are generally non-fouling and in theory will last longer, but 3800's suffer from areas of oil contamination to the a/f mix. If you don't stay on top of keeping carbon at check, the hot spot created by the IR and plat plugs you'll get detonation from them.

I run a can of Techron in 2 consecutive tanks of gas before every oil change and it's kept things clean for me. YMMV

Just popped in a set of TR6 plugs, fresh wires and air filter. Car is so much smoother all the way around. Idle is smoother and there are no more hesitations in boost. Also cleaned up the engine bay with a half bottle of degreaser. For anyone who saw under the hood Sunday, you know it was needed. 3800 pah.
