its pretty sad that newish phones still dont have the newest software version, and it seems that even die hards dont know a timetable of when their phones will receive 2.2 let alone 2.3. Its like almost not a guarantee that if you have the newest best phone out there that you will be the first to get gingerbread.... meanwhile guy with the 4 month old phone just wants froyo which is considered old-school to the guy with the phone from a year ago.... ughhh its frustrating to even think about. All those fuckin carriers wanna make their custom skinned android versions.... makes me nervous about ios being on just 2 carriers in the near future.... im thinking apple will have enough pull to have full control of that aspect of the phone though, hell id be very surprised to have even a verizon or att logo anywhere on a iphone with the exception of the RF gain bar

im sure if android made ONE phone it would always have the latest software too.

there are a lot of android phones out, and all have different hardware which means one update wont suit all phones. froyo was released, then it needed to be tweaked for each phone's needs.
i will agree it's been a slow roll out. hell, i thought the incredible got froyo late.

woo whoo finally after many years I broke down and upgraded my old phone ( Samsung A437)
To a new Galaxy S Samsung Captivate :bigthumb:

Finally! Very nice.

I am getting impatient at the slowness of Sprint bringing out updates for the Epic. I am still waiting for 2.2 and now the 2.3 "Gingerbread" OS is out. Come on sprint!

EVO ftw! Check my reply to your other post below. lol

i agree.

i'm just thankful spring decided the evo was their go to phone

EVO ftw!

I don't think that's the case. Samsung is running a custom user interface which I've read makes it more difficult to update. Who knows?

It is not Sprint like you mention earlier. Samsung needs to do there voodoo to it for their software. I think the new version of Android gets released to everyone at the same time. How the phone carrier jumps on it is what makes the difference. Once they have it it needs to be tested by Sprint as well. Then released for a OTA update.

here ya go jason:

Rumors have been runnin' round regarding the Sprint Epic 4G's long-awaited Android 2.2 Froyo update. And it looks like Dec. 26 is getting nailed down as a probable date. Yes, we know how these "push dates" go -- they're as likely to be good as bad, and it's not like everybody gets pushed the update at the same time. But here's what we've been sent from a couple of people:

A software update to DL11 (Froyo) is available for the Samsung EPIC 4G via
Google OTA.
OTA Duration time: 7-8 minutes, with installation time of 6-8 minutes.
Customers will become eligible for the upgrade across a 4-day period based on their status with the Google servers.
67% of users are currently on SW DI18 so the first OTA package we will
publish will be an upgrade from DI18 - Froyo (DL11).

So if all goes according to plan (we're all knocking on wood here), the push would begin next Sunday and last for four days or so. Anybody wondering what their "status with the Google servers" is?

Finally upgraded from my old bb curve to an EVO. First actual touch screen smart phone. Love it so far but no idea what are the 'bees knees' when it comes to apps and or must downloads.
Anyone wanna make a quick list or mention anything I dont/should know about it lol? Bout to head to work and dont wanna read 35 pages of this to figure out random stuff.
