is it because i can't drive? no. i can probably drive better than you. after all, you drive a vette and a caddy...you obviously prefer cars that drive for you vs driving your own cars.

AND THIS IS THE KIND OF STUPIDITY THAT KEEPS ME COMING BACK. "I MUST DRIVE BETTER THAN YOU, EVEN THOUGH YOU NEVER CAIMED YOU WERE BETTER THAN ANYBODY. PLUS YOU OWNED 2 WORLD CLASS HANDLING CARS SO THAT MUST BE TO COVER YOUR RUBBISH DRIVING STYLE OH YES AND LETS NOT FORGET THE RUBBER WILL FREEZE ON YOUR TIRES AND YOU WILL DIE YES, EVEN THOUGH IT HASNT YET FOR ANY CAR IVE DRIVEN WITH SUMMERS YET

Years ago a buddy had a BMW 330CI. It had the sport package so it might have had summer only tires, but either way it had stock tires on it. I remember his first winter with the car. Despite advanced traction control, he couldn't even pull up his own snow-covered driveway (had about 2 inches). It was a normal driveway but the car just couldn't do it. IIRC two dudes had to sit in the trunk and more dudes had to push. After that he purchased snow tires for his BMW. He said the car was amazing after the tires like a completely different car, it was like he now had 4x4. This ******d me enough to get me to purchase snow tires the next winter, and I have been ever since. Currently on the GTP I run Eagle F1's in the summer and Blizzaks in the winter on two different sets of wheels. Not only does this give me the best for both season's, but it also saves wear on both sets. Are snow tires necessary? Nope, but they sure are nice to use in the winter.

This reminds me of when my friends were talking about traction control and ABS. A friend called these a "newb assist" and said they were not needed. The conversation spiraled into us calling power windows, speedometers, automatic transmissions etc all newb assists. Because they are not needed to drive a car. But make it easier. :bowrofl:

I'm not defending anyone but the majority of people that put winter tires on have a false sense of security and feel they can drive in shitty conditions like they can with performance tires in the summer, I know because I used to pull them out of ditches and tow their cars. "I don't understand why I spun out, I have snow tires on" That being said I'd still rather have snow tires on my truck even with AWD and traction control so I know my chances of not ending up in a ditch increase. To each their own but I want to see the Vette plowing thru 3 inches of snow if tires don't matter. Just sayin.

I drive around with my winter tires now. Sure beats having a set of wheels/tires in the garage just eating up space too. :s00ls:

Pretty similar to how my friend got his winter tires. He was giving me shit for having trouble driving with my summer tires. After I got winter tires and showed the night and day difference he went out and got them too.

Because I was simply pricing them out... I slept on it and realized that I didn't need them at all and could get by without them. That was when I first got the car and winter driving was still unknown. I had 2 buddies with cts sports that were telling me the car was awful in the snow and at first I trusted them but then realized that maybe I should find out for myself. I did, low and behold it was much easier than driving my corvette so now I feel that I still don't NEED them. I'm not saying they don't work or they aren't nice, I'm simply saying you can get by just fine without them.

Do you notice a theme in this thread? People thought that their struggles in the winter were just a fact of life. Then they actually drove with winter tires, and realized it's a whole different world. You've obviously had enough struggles driving in the winter to consider purchasing winter tires or you wouldn't have posted in that thread. The fact is you don't know what you are missing. Drive a car in inclement weather conditions with winter tires and I guarantee it will change your perspective.

I on the other hand have driven a car in the winter with summer tires, and the difference in vehicle control is absolutely massive. I will NEVER do it again.

This discussion is retarded. This is a car forum correct? Do you buy special parts to make your car go faster? Do you buy special tires so you have more traction at the track? Comon people. How does it NOT make sense to anyone that winter tires improve handling performance over the winter months?

Blizzaks are the bomb. If you've never driven a car that was equipped with these, you should seriously consider doing so.

Did anyone watch the tirerack youtube vid earlier in the thread proving the difference? :picard:

.

YES I DO THOUGH... IVE DRIVEN 2 CTS'S WITH WINTER TIRES AND THEY WERE GREAT... JUST CANT SEE JUSTIFYING $700 FOR A NEW SET OF TIRES FOR THOSE 5 DAYS THAT THERE IS SNOW ON THE STREET (NOT THE GROUND, THE ACTUAL PAVEMENT). ITS JUST FUNNY TO ME THAT PEOPLE GET PERSONALLY OFFENDED AND START PERSONAL ATTACKS JUST BECAUSE I CLAIM THAT I CAN GET BY WITH SUMMERS. I UNDERSTAND THAT WINTERS ARE BETTER, BUT ITS A COST/RESULTS ARGUMENT AND TO ME ITS NOT WORTH IT.

WHILE THAT TIRE RACK TEST IS EYE OPENING, HOW OFTEN DO YOU DRIVE ON A HOCKEY RINK? I MEAN YES THE TIRES STOP AND TURN BETTER BUT YOU ALSO CANT TELL ME THAT IF THE GUY WERE TO SLOW DOWN IN THE TURNS THAT HE WOULDNT HAVE SLID OFF INTO THE BOARDS.

You could get by with wagon wheels too...

5 days that snow is on the ground? Do you live in the same Chicago the rest of us do? There are more than 5 days a year that you have to deal with slippery roads.

The point is that the technology exists to improve your winter driving experience. It's just a matter of an investment in your vehicle. You decide.

It started because you called people 'girls' for having snow tires, so you technically started the name calling. Of course people are going to give back personal insults. But you later said you meant the way we were discussing was like girls, not the actual act of using snow tires. I'm pretty sure that everyone thought you meant we were girls for using snow tires.
