There was this one time I went to buy a 2003 M3 from the Chrysler dealership in Elgin. I test drove it (Check engine light was on), but drove BEAUTIFULLY. They originally wanted $23,000. (This was back around '06). I asked about the CEL and they told me they would take it to MotorWorks in Barrington. (They did and showed me all the paperwork and took care of the CEL and replaced the brakes). I asked for a history report.
They "didn't have one." I asked if they can just print one out right at that moment and show it to me. But they told me that they "couldn't do it." So while it was being looked at in Barrington, I decided to front up the money for a 30 day service from Carfax.
Needless to say, the title had "Flood damage." I was still willing to buy it, but for a SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper price out the door. (and I'm not talking $5,000 cheap...i'm talking within reason and respect to both the dealership and I). Well they didn't want to budge AT ALL on the price.
I think I should have just reported them for trying to swindle somebody without disclosing the full details/history of the vehicle.
But I didn't and left. I'll never be shopping for cars there anymore nor recommend them to anybody neither.
