dude was all fucked up on drugs and just damaged 4 or 5 of his neighbors cars. They actually took it EASY on him.
there was never a point where "8 guys were kicking him" They basically subdued him and threw a blanket over him...that really could have (and probably should have) been much worse for him; There seems to be some pretty brutal videos coming out of Russia constantly.

Maybe not in Mchenry County..but i GUARANTEE you everywhere else it would.
Theres obviously limitations, but if someone is committing a crime against you (damaging cars, coming into your house/apartment after you- like this guy did), you can definitely legally 'restrain' them until the cops get there. Its not like they gang-beat the hell out of him.
The only logical conclusion I can get from this is that Joel once had a similar experience during a nude, drug-fueled rampage.
