I found this below while doing a quick research:
There is way too much chatter and incorrect information from people out there who spread rumors and false assumptions about the issue of torque management control pertaining to the 6L80E transmission. At the level of modification most of these posters are at ( headers/exhaust/tuning/pulley/cai ) the likelihood of hurting this transmission under anything resembling intelligent operation is extremely small. Keep in mind that GM rates this transmission to handle up to 650 ft./lbs. of torque and 600 h.p. @ a maximum upshift point of 6500 rpm. How many of you who keep spitting out arbitrary % #'s ( which are nothing more than a wild guess on your part ) are putting out anything even close to those capacity numbers? With the exception of a couple of the sponsoring vendors of this forum, probably none of you are, but some of you keep spouting % numbers as if you are in a position of knowledge. I have had EXTENSIVE conversations with GM transmission and development engineers as well as Kirk @ VMS and only these people along with a VERY select few other tuners even qualify to retune the various parameters controlling this transmission which entail many other variables aside from only line pressure and tq %. Tq/mngt. % really becomes more important to transmission life expectancy as the power/torque #'s get much higher, such as will be encountered with forced induction, nitrous use, bigger cams/heads and/or stroker kits. As an example, my car runs mid 12's on factory tires and has had all tq/mngt turned off since it was nearly brand new, presently has almost 6K miles and has no transmissions issues whatsoever.
Now, if those of you who spout tq/mngt. %'s as if you really know something, would just stop confusing some of the members of this forum and leave it to those who really understand all of the variables involved, you would be doing all of the members a great service by not confusing the issue. Leave the tuning advice to the real experts such as Kirk @ VMS and a few of the other tuners who actually know what they are doing, and stop pretending as though you know what the experts know.
