I put my car up for sale last week and said I would take trades for bikes.

I've had one guy offer to trade for his 08 ZX6R and another for an 07 R1. Obviously the R1 is not an option for a first bike, but I'm seriously considering the ZX.

Me being the smart, non show off type would I be alright on something like the ZX for a first bike? I'd trade for it and then ride it back from Michigan. And I've never riden a street bike before.

For a first bike, stick with the ZX. An R1 would get you in trouble no matter how frugal you are.

I looked into the ZX some more. It sounds shady and I wouldn't pay $4,000 for it. It's been repainted white with spray paint.

i have a 2008 zx6r for sale. the bike has 1150 miles!!! i drive it everyday so the miles will go up. i bought the bike with the plastics painted how they are, and its just a spray can or garage job, not bad from 5 feet away. the bike runs amazing. its 100 percent stock minus mirrors. (will include one mirror with sell, other broke). i removed the muffler and it sounds killer, but the tail light melted on the corner, but still works perfect. Nothing wrong with the bike, and runs perfect. just put in a brand new battery.

now the real part...im asking 5400 obo. and i dont need to sell. i will actually be out of town until around the 15th of july, but can still receive calls/text. please call/text and you wont be dissapointed.

The only bad part about all this, is now I'm considering the R1. Still way easier to trade for this then sell my car and I'll probably sell it within a couple weeks anyway. Will I be capable of not dying on an R1 if it's my first bike? LOL

Well I'd say do it if it's in good shape. You'd probably have better luck selling it then your car. That an you could always trade it in on a bike you'd want.

You ever ride a dirt bike or quad? I know you're from Michigan so I assume you have.

That's basically what I'm thinking. I'm enough of a pussy too that I won't get myself into too much trouble with it either.

I do know how to ride quads and dirtbikes. Spent july 4th weekend on a banshee and when I go to Dewey's place we always ride the bikes. I've got the whole clutch, shifting, balance, braking part down solid. It's the whole power, and being on the street that I'm worried about.

2007 R1, 21, no tickets, first time.

From a thread I was just reading some people were quoted several hundred a month for sport bikes.

ah, maybe because i did a triumph instead of a more traditional crotch rocket it was lower and that i'm 24. I wonder what it will be if i did a zx14... i'll check back later with that stat.

Update: If i wanted to get a ZX14 for a 24yr old, new rider with no previous history.....9156.00/year!!!!!! A 2010 Triumph Bonneville with the same personal stats....392/yr

Holy shit that's a lot of $$! Then again I'm sure they're factoring in statistics of what bikes get crashed the most and the fact that most crashes I assume the bikes are totaled plus medical for whoever gets hurt.

Good thing I just want an old junk bike like this

Then make it look kinda like this

A nice triumph would be good too.
