Help on a trans swap next week?

  • The recommended way would be to remove the cats and use a long screwdriver or a pry bar and a hammer to break up the ceramic brick inside.
  • Place it down inside from both directions.
  • Use a shop vac to suck all the dust out.
  • Wear a dust mask to protect your lungs, stuff is nasty. It will probably be full of oil and carbon.
  • If you can not get a screwdriver down inside because of a sharp bend in the pipe or the pipe is too long then you could try drilling some 1/8" holes through the side and let the drill bit bust shit up.
  • Drill a hole right down the center about every 2 inch or so to give you room to use a screwdriver and wiggle it around to bust it all up.
  • Again wear a mask and shake and vacuum the stuff out. Try not to wiggle the drill bit, you might break it off inside.

After you get all the shit out you then could use this stuff to patch the holes.

Then before you put the cats back on wrap it with this stuff

I just used this stuff on my Impala, I had a rust hole in the side of the resonator that was getting really loud.

You mix up the epoxy spread it over the small holes you made and then wrap the cats with the heat tape.

I found this stuff at my local Auto Zone. Cheap repair.

Any questions give me a call or just stop by, remember I'm just a few miles up the road from your shop. I'm unemployed right now and I have to watch my kids at home. So right now I'm always home. You could come by and use some of my stuff. Plus it's nice to talk with adults from time to time.

Stay at home dad (insert small tear here)....lol

It sounded horrible and had to blast music to even deal with the drive to work this morning. Found out my headers and Y will be here tomorrow so decided to pull the stock manifolds this morning. To my surprise the bolts came out with ease. It looks like someone has removed them in the past and actually used anti-seize when reinstalling. On the down side they cracked the head off the bolt on the rear drivers side. Then when attempting to remove that bolt with vise-grips it cracked off inside the head. FML. Now what are my options? I was driving around for the last 5 years without it on there so do you think it will be fine without it now? The headers I am getting have a 3/4" flange and its 321 stainless so it is quite strong and Im hoping the other bolts will hold it tight enough to not allow an exhaust leak. Otherwise would I have to remove the head and drill it out and re-thread it? <--not something I want to attempt.
