Transmission woes continue. Got the car back on Monday and shifted fine except a soft 1-2 shift. Wed come around go to pull out of the driveway and I start to hear something like a rock rolling around in the trans. After about 30 seconds it stopped making noise. Started to drive and now the trans slips really really fuckin bad. Almost can't get into 3rd. Tranny shop said they can't do anything but it will cost 1500 to rebuild. They completely disassembled and reassembled the trans and said it all looked good but the OD clutches so they replaced them. Now my trans is running looser than paris hilton so who knows what the problem is.

I am gonna drop the pan and really hope there is a bolt or something in the pan(rattling noise). Long story short....might have to kill people to feel better about this situation.

I already have a built trans, but it has had consistent reliability issues. I am going to give them a call first thing Monday morning and pretty much tell them what was stated above. That the car was not running like this before, so could they at least find the problem and see if it was their fault.

Either way I can't really pay for it to get fixed again and can't afford a new trans. Will remember TEP for the future. This will become my project turbo car that I will piece togwther over a lil while prolly.

On a side note I am going to my credit union on Monday to see if I could get a car loan for a new 10' WRX non STi 4 door sedan. Went to the dealership today and they could get me a metallic graphite color 4 door new WRX for 26 grand. Strongly considering this. STi would be sick but I wouldn't really use the SI and all the other controls. Plus the WRX is already crucial enough for me, and keeps 10 grand in my pocket.

Yeah, your right it is the 11 your thinkin about. I have the dealership book and it lists ever difference in a comparison chart. I will list some crap off the first numbers are the base model and the 2nd are the STi.

Compression 8.4:1/8.2:1, turbo intercooled 14.2psi/turbo high cross flow design intercooler 14.7psi, synchronized 5speed/syncronized close ratio 6 both trans have incline start assist, the STI has a limited slip helical front diff and Torsen rear diff, MPG 18cty 25hwy/ 17cty 23hwy, suspension is just a bit different, brakes are different, wheels different, wheelbase is .2 inches more with the STi, weight 3174/3395. STi has the different interior contols for engine and trans management.

I would save weight, and money...plus when modding happens most of those parts will be changed anyway. I am feelin confident about getting it, I have considered a lot of options and for a new car I have to get something with some performance and practicality.

I don't know man. You just sick of your car and putting money into it? Cause if you can't afford to fix an old car like that. Why take on a new car payment type of thing. Hey thats just me. But I have learned my lession from buying new cars and over spending even if you can scrap the monthly payment up. Good luck!

Just know that any serious amount of modding on the WRX WILL require transmission work. Either a 6 spd swap ($5k plus) or new gears in the 5 spd ($5k plus).
