I didn’t know I have to be a fucking chemist to own a pool
Funny thing is the above ground pools with vinyl liners can take a beating from bad pool chemistry. Meaning if the PH and alkalinity is way off it wont fuck up your pool. A concrete inground pool needs to be taken care of much better.

Yeah that’s what I meant the chlorine tablet basket deal
I mean all chlorine tablets sold in the US as far as I know have stabilizer built in, so if you're wanting to throw a chlorinator floater in there it should increase your CA over time. A hot tub probably doesn't need a ton of CA since they are usually only like 500 gallons. I'm no hot tub expert though. I would check with your local store.

So I got my water tested, my ca is actually not bad (both test strips showed 0)… my chlorine is out now again so 10 gallons more shock
Dude, something doesnt sound right. They are saying your CA is ok and your test strips are showing 0. My test strips always showed CA correctly. You are now saying your free chlorine is showing out. I'm betting your CA isnt high enough.

She says my ca is 77 and range is okay, I put a lot stabilizer in there last night so maybe that’s it… it is on the low end of the okay… more stabilizer has been added as well..

I put 8 gallons of chlorine in and now it’s showing some available ….150 dollars of shock just to open it…. Seems edging insane

Like Shawn said you must've never got rid of it.

Your keeping the solar cover off right?
Don’t have one…. But why would it be dormant for 9 months and then pop up…it was clean when I opened it two weeks ago… everything I have read and seen personally says it doesn’t go away until it’s dead
And also, I know I've mentioned it, but when I was a kid and at my mom's she never ever really put a cover on or took care to close the pool. And every year we'd have issues getting clear until we flocked it, then vacuumed TO WASTE. Then it was fine.
Every year I put the closing kit in, plus two bottles of shock…maybe it’s not enough shock? I vacuumed to waste three times already…

I have high ass chlorine now so I should be good

I have agree here, I always closed my pool with cleaning the shit out of it and adding about 3 gallons of shock and a small bottle of aglaecide. I always opened it to a completely clean and clear pool.
Proper closing is key. Took my cover off Tuesday and coulda swam yesterday.

I don’t think it was ever completely gone. When we were fighting it, I’d get it under control and think it was gone. It would come back a couple of weeks later.

I can’t even fathom what I have to spend on chemicals this year. I could not get the shop vac setup to work. It was drawing too much head and the bag I had in it would not drain the water back fast enough.

Pumped out a few thousand gallons with a garden hose pump and also used a leaf thing that runs off of a garden hose with a venturi effect. Spent probably 6 hours with that slow piece of shit but it did work. Then topped the pool up with fresh water and vacuumed to waste several thousand gallons again over the course of 3 days, each night filling it again. I pulled enough leaves and sticks and acorns to halfway fill a large wheelbarrow. Also found another squirrel, this one was bloated to the max and no hair on it. Must have been in there for a while and I dislodged it from the bottom.

The good news is that I finally think I have 90% of the solids out. Hopefully no more dead animal discoveries.

Have you cleaned the filter out? De filter, replaced de 2 this year as well as cleaned it with acid

How long are you running the pump for? 24 hours a day

Do you have a pool float with chlorine tablets in it? I have 5 tablets in the float plus an in-line chlorinatir

Have you started to look for a pool cleaning company yet? Thinking about turning it to a pickle ball court
