Last year I just mowed over the leaves and mulched them.

I might find a price to power rake in a week or two. Buying a machine and then doing all the work and then getting rid of the waste vs just having it done this year might make more sense.

I don’t want to have a show lawn, but I do want it to at least look a little Bette than it does.

So I moved into my new house in August and there were a few dead spots in the lawn. Since then more have popped up. Someone told me they were Voles but I looked up what that looks like and it’s more trails of dead grass. I’m trying to figure out if it’s bacteria or grubs so I can treat it accordingly. First pic is a newer spot, 2nd pick is spots that have been there since I moved in. Any ideas?

When you find out, let me know. I have the same problem and haven't been able to figure it out. Soil testing showed normal levels. Doesn't matter how I try to get grass to grow in those areas, it always ends up dying.

Maybe animals marking their territory? Dog pee can make lawns look like that. Maybe other animals are doing the same and marking over and over?

Maybe just pee there yourself and assert dominance and other animals stop?
If it’s animals it’s something huge and not my dog. I have dead spots from her but they take up a lot less area. The spots are usually 8-10” circles and generally in the same spot. I haven’t see any other animals in the yard outside of squirrels.

Could be fungus. I had a patch like that start, sprayed it with propiconazole and it stopped spreading so I figured it out that way.
Did you get the propiconazole direct from somewhere? Or like in a product off-the-shelf from a box store? If I can find a small amount I'd like to see if it works. My area is about 4' x 6'.

You’d have to check the label, but I think the bio advanced Bayer hose end sprayer stuff at any big box store is propiconazole.

I buy it from domyown.com and mix it in a tank sprayer. It’s cheaper that way in the long run but a bit more up front.

Those are a must. I consider myself fairly intelligent, but had to watch a YouTube video to figure out how to fold that thing the first time I used it. Something about it is very counter intuitive to me.
You're not alone. I have bought a couple of these and they suck compared to the old Yellow "Bag-pak" that I had for years and finally wore out. It was square to fit the lawn bag, but you squeezed the folding middle pieces together to collapse it to put it in the bag. Stupidly simple. This is just complex by comparison.

I don’t know if I waited too long and it’s not a good idea yet, but I really want to do another dethatch before winter. I bet I could get double the amount I got in the spring. I’d love to wait until after Halloween because it’s always nice to have a great looking lawn on Halloween

It's soo big... :D

Didn't mow this weekend as growth slowed substantially, but we did trim all our bushes since Elgin is now in free yard waste pick up mode. What is important about this story, is that on my lawn chute gizmo, in the process of trying to remove it from the bag that was stuffed full, I ended up tearing the complete top portion of it off... :D
