What type of windows do you have now? Are they multiple panes with UVA/UVB protection?

I had our windows replaced about a year ago. Went with Advanced Windows Corp, three panes on the back of the house where all the road noise comes from (County Farm), and double pane in the front. Also had them do the pet screening for the screens. Yeah, a little darker and more obstructive to look at/through, but I don't have to worry about any of cats tearing a hole in one and making an escape.
How much was the pet screening? You can do that yourself for probably a tenth of what they charged.

Was about to say the same, the 2 tone effect is nicely done imo
The plan is to match the chimney. Its just the newest siding wise(resided when roof was done) and wasn't teal so it hasn't been painted yet. I was debating keeping it lighter though. Cap is going to be repainted as its old and causing the top white edging to turn rust colored from rust water.

Old ass wooden single pane that have been painted at least twice, with the last one having minimal prep as they were tough as shit to slide.

So likely replace, if we keep, they have to be at least taken out and sanded and prepped right before being painted and put back in so they slide properly. Some lubricant helped but they really need a good sanding to move right.

These are what we went with. 6300 series for the rear patio door (60" width), then the triple pane 6300 in the back, double pane 6300 for side and front.

Back are sliders, side is a slider, and fronts are double hung.

Shawn, missed your question when I replied to the Tin man.

How much was the pet screening? You can do that yourself for probably a tenth of what they charged.

Since we had the windows and screening all done at the same time, it was only like $10 more per window. We had the patio door done a few years prior and it was a regular screen. I asked how much to redo that one as well and it was $50. However they just brought out a whole new screen door with the screening already in it. I think that was worth it as the screen door's frame is a stronger version. I had a friend that's 6'1" and 200lbs walk right into the screen door and he just bounced off.

Edit: The lower $10 cost might be due to the option we chose, which was to do 1/2 screens, so we could slide them up or down in the channels. I don't get much airflow through the house, and being able to open the windows without screens makes a huge difference in flow. I can open both the top and bottom panes, leaving the screen down to prevent the cats from getting out, but the top opening will allow air to come through.

Here's a close up of the screening material:

And here you can see how it affects your visibility looking through it. Screen on left, but six panes of glass on right (the sliding door is overlapping the fixed door).

I started a project yesterday that my wife has been asking me to do for the past couple years. A farm table. Our dining room table has taken a beating with our kids, so I started on the table yesterday. Got the base done (minus stain), and need to do the tabletop today. Making it 2 pieces and just going to mount it onto the base of the table with "L" brackets so that if and when we move or get rid of the table, I can just unscrew it.

I also made an adaptor for the miter saw to attach to the vacuum. Gets most of the dust but much better than not having the vacuum attached.

Are you going to put glides on the 4 corners to level it or are you confident your floor is dead nuts

There's feet on the table that I just screwed in, but when I have it assembled in the dining room, I'll take them off and make them adjustable. That way I can level it all after it's where it needs to be.

New floor in the master closet. Ripped out the old carpet and laid down some of the nicest vinyl flooring I have ever seen. It’s just under 120sq feet and I was an idiot and didn’t move the dressers out so I was kinda playing jenga the whole time. Only took about 3.5 hours to lay down though. I think we’re gonna rip out all the built in racks and install the prefab closet stuff you get at menards. Plus we are getting the washer and dryer moved to the closet next week, but I don’t fuck with plumbing and gas so I’m just paying a contractor to do it.

Oh yea, a utility knife has no prayer of getting through this flooring so I got a flooring cutter. It made the 100% impossible task not only super easy, but leaving absolutely no mess. Worth the $130 on Amazon in case anybody is doing any vinyl in the future

Our condo has track lighting in the living room and kitchen. I really don’t like them, but the cost to totally remove and replace them is out of the budget at the moment.

Temp fix was to replace the crusty yellowed ones with more modern tracks / cans. Pretty straight forward job and relatively cheap (under $300 for everything). I think it looks much better.

I haven't been able to do much on the table I'm working on. I did sand everything down and got to 220 grit. I put the tabletop together with glue and screws. Just need to get time to add wood conditioner and stain it. I have an idea what I'm gonna do for the base/bottom. Hopefully it works out. But I'm hoping this week everything will be complete (when I can find the time). The image is with the tabletop upside down just after I put it together. Damn top itself is heavy. I have to make sure it can take a beating from the kids.

In the never ending saga of "TWO prior electricians owned this house and I've seen the most hack job electrical shit in my life."

There's a booster fan at the end of the house because the HVAC is at the complete polar opposite side of the house. Well, this fan was wired hot 24/7. All day, every day, night and day, day in day out, you have this fucking fan whirring away generating white noise. All day. All fucking day. All night. I was trying to figure out how to wire a relay to it and run the relay to the furnace so when the furnace fan kicks on, it kicks the booster fan on ONLY WHEN ITS NEEDED. Versus all day. Did I mention it ran all. fucking. day?

Well I realized looking at the main trunk, there's an air pressure switch and the booster is on the daughter trunk. So I start tracing this cluster fuck rats nest of 14/2 all over the basement and find out guess what? The fucking pressure switch USED to control the booster fan but was partially disconnected and I'm assuming because the dumb motherfucker wired it hot instead of as a switch. So any time to fan came on, I'm sure it tripped the breaker, they couldn't figure it out, so they just disconnected the switch and wired the fan hot.

Guess what, dumbass non-electrician me knows how to wire a fucking switch into a circuit and now the booster fan kicks on only when the furnace is on.

I'm actually afraid to start peeling back the drop ceiling and seeing the chainsaw abortion of wiring I CAN'T see and how much of it is dead ends that are still hot. Oh, did I mention the antenna tower next to the house had a live circuit going up the tower, into a conduit box that was open to the elements? Yeah, found that too.

Fucking hacks.

Every time I see shit like this I’m not mad about charging what I do to fix peoples cars. It’s blatantly obvious most people don’t have the skills to fix their own things.

I went over to a friends house the other week because they “couldn’t figure out how to build the stuff from ikea”. How the fuck do you figure out how to wipe after a shit if you can’t figure that stuff out?

Assembling IKEA stuff is kind of satisfying.

Sounds like the basement in my place. some of the lights would not turn on unless 3 switches were on. Yes 3. Traced it back and found the lights were wired through 9 J boxes and cloth wire, BX, Aluminum wire, and Lamp cord in the ceiling. Then my wife said she could smell plastic burning smell down there. turned out they had an improperly wired Multi wire Branch Circuit and was pulling 20A through a 14ga neutral when the washer, dryer, lights, and fridge were all on. also half the shit had grounds cut on them or were using grounds as neutrals. Previous owners said he was an electrician and carpenter. I correctly wired the Multiwire branch so each branch was on a separate leg, moved the lights and fridge to their own circuits, and tore all the rest of the wiring out of the basement. now have 12/2 run to 2 20A circuits for outlets and future use. 12/2 20A for the hot water heater, water softner, and vent fan. 12/3 for the well pump provisioned so I can convert it to 240v 20A later if needed. 12/2 20A for all the lights on their own circuit just for the overkill possibility I run an outlet or two off them. Also did loops of extra slack on the lines so I can move stuff around if we ever get the funds to redo the basement.

Carters lyfe sounds like my life.

Now does maygun follow you around questioning your every move and suggest to do it how someone on pinterest did it?
lol nope. She actually grabs a beer, sits back on the couch, and fingers her belly button watching me ala Dodgeball.

Here's my next fuck you cunt (previous owner) project: The house was originally plumbed with PEX. Retards cut it up and used 3/4" CPVC throughout the house. With every shitty cement joint that leaked and they covered in silicon.

Forgot to post about this one, but last weekend I took care of the sidewalk coming up to the front of the house. It had sunk down a few inches at the stoop and would accumulate water there and make a huge ass chunk of ice that you'd step right onto. If you salted it would just become a pool of sludge. I ended up digging underneath it, shoving a bottle jack in then jacking the block up. After that I stuck about 2.5 bags of gravel underneath and dropped it back down. It's way the fuck higher, hope this fixes the problem. Naturally the wife doesn't think it'll work but we'll see. Gotta be better than what was there.
