I have been really liking the double oaked bourbon's lately. Woodford Double Oaked maybe the best bourbon I have had. It has a sweet, maple initial taste and finishes smooth with hints of chocolate. Though the Beam is quite a bit cheaper and flatter by comparison it is still a very pleasant sipper. The bourbon that surprised me the least was Dickel's 8 your bourbon. It's really a Tennessee whiskey that has picked up more oaky and vanilla notes from aging. It's the least surprising because I love Tennessee whiskey in general, I'm a big fan of Dickel and I fully expected to love this new batch as well. For $35/ bottle it's worth buying a couple. You can see how low I am.
I also was gifted a bottle of New Riff and it has been delicious as well. I think I have hit my stride in bourbon appreciation and now am starting to pick up the intricate flavors as well as being able to enjoy lower proof offerings neat. Next on my list to snag is Four Roses small batch and Old Forrester 1910.

Dickel is good stuff.

I picked up from Four Roses Single Barrel OBSV that I am looking to crack open soon.

Whiskey is my go to drink, though I'm a cheap date, I drink Jameson with some ice cubes and a little bit of water. I have tried most of their variations, their Cold Brew Whiskey is ok. The Cask stuff is hit or miss with me (I think I tried both variations and liked 1 but not the other) and I have bottle of their Black Barrel that I got for xmas last year from my mother in law, that bottle is almost empty.

I have a few other bottles here and some I've left at buddies places (the Metallica Blackened whiskey is decent, Buffalo Trace is good. My one buddy loves Knob Creek, it's ok. He brought me a bottle earlier this year when I first saw him since Covid. I've thought about joining a Whiskey of the month club to try out other Whiskey's, but I'm too cheap to join and I really go in phases with drinking, I'll go a few weeks/months without having any and then go a month having 1 a night, just depends on my mood.

Trying to fi d eagle rare around here is insane. Stupid allocations. It's a 35-40 bottle, I found 1 place that wanted $112 fir it. Told them to fuck right off. Might just end up hitting up one on my contacts where it's not an allocation and have them ship it to me.

I've had buffalo trace, larceny, wild turkey 101, 4 roses, elijah Craig, fist full of bourbon, dewards, red label.

All the basic versions.

I saw Eagle Rare a few months ago at Woodmans in Lakemoor and I'm kicking my self for not buying a couple bottles. I also saw Buffalo Trace at Walmart and didn't get it either. The fact that Buffalo Trace is hard to find blows my mind.

EH is my favorite BT reasonable bottle, but that’s being harder to find.

I have no idea why but my pallet has completely changed and I am able to enjoy whiskey neat. Today I had a dram of Glenfiddich 12, Four Roses Small Batch, Old Forester 1870 and Michters American Whiskey. All are great. The scotch was a good one to start on.

Going on the bourbon trail is what did that for me. Kind of how the Napa trip I did expanded the wine pallet.
