Mecum was today. I threw a hail mary bid out there, and now I own this. Really bringing the collection up to snuff for the seven people that like random rust free white utility vehicles.

1996 F-150. RCSB 2wd.

4.9 I6

93,000 original miles.

They’re already there. 16,000 mile ‘97 7.3 just brought $76,000 before fees in September.

I could see how someone could believe that to be the pinnacle of trucks from within its era. Trucks have a shitton more of stuff now, but in terms of the fundamentals around hauling that'd still hold its own lightly modded.

Modern classics. I’ve been saying it for years after seeing it start with a handful of vehicles. Grand Wagoneers, square body Suburbans, OBS Fords, etc 7-8 years ago. They’re old enough to be classics, but modern enough that they’re livable everyday if you so choose.

Anything from the TBI era up, you get in, turn the key and the vehicle pops on. Not only that but you can rack high miles up on a truck like that compared to a carb because the warm up cycle is controlled compared to a carb vehicle and they don't tear up the top of the cylinder walls. All of that and in many cases they're truly not much more difficult to work on than a carbureted vehicle.
