Grampa Weeder arrived today and….

It is legit and sturdy.

Removes a dandelion with ease, including the root.

I do think it doesn’t hurt to give the hole left in the ground a shot of Round Up in case a few roots are left behind, but solid product for the price.

I love the old timey music and feel of the instructional video. Almost like I should be watching an old Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry episode. Im sure Flyn Flyn is probably getting those teenage rumbles when watching.

Seriously though, I might have to try this. Gotta see if it works on crab grass. That and clover are my biggest enemy right now.

Backyard was littered with these this morning. Good thing the dogs give 0 fucks about them.

I’m on round 3 I think of putting down .5-.75 pounds of N per 1000 every two weeks. Front yard is looking great which leads me to believe whatever I have up there just has no heat or drought tolerance. Looks good in spring and fall and goes to absolute shit every summer.

are you letting the grass grow long in the summer? I put my mower at the highest setting for summer and the grass stays green longer than all the neighbors.

without ridiculous watering its going to go dormant in the summer at some point but to me that’s just a bonus that I dont need to mow for a month when it’s 90*+ outside

3.75” all summer down to 2.75 now because I like it better that low. It’s the same areas that go to shit each year too. Not sure if it’s the soil or the type of grass there. I’m sending off soil samples in the spring. I have tall fescue in my side yard and that stuff looked great all summer with almost no watering. I mowed it down to 1.25” to do some leveling work and that killed some of it, but it rebounded already. I may do an aggressive overseed of the front next year with a tall fescue bluegrass mix.

Used the 40v Ryobi leaf blower today. Took 2 4aH batteries and just got it done. Will have to get a 3rd battery probably the 6aH or larger one to get through it when the majority of the leaves fall but it does really well.

just mowed the front and will knock the back out once I eat some lunch.

no Real need for any kind of walk behind mower. It’s 3/4 acre overall and I’m not walking that. I am going to get the chainsaw and pole saw attachments for the Ryobi though.

I was going to say the same thing about the lawn mower, but yeah. If I am struggling with my 1/4 acre and 2 6aH batteries. Granted I did get my lawn done last time, but I had to refrain from using the self propel. So its either have a self propelling lawnmower and not use that function, or get bigger batteries. Ill probably get the bigger batteries in the spring or if I can catch them on sale.

Since you have the expand it one, Id get the edger attachment as well.

How far low do some of you cut your grass for the last cut of the year? Also when is your last cut of the year? Id assume it depends on weather and such, but just trying to learn me some lawn stuff. Im assuming I am not dethatching before winter, but it is what it is.

I cut it on mowers lowest setting to avoid the grass getting matted down and choking the soil of oxygen.

Yeah I want to get the edger, pole chain saw, and probably the 40v chainsaw as well. Although there is no sidewalk at my house so the edger would not get a ton of use.

So my wife had someone come over today for an estimate for some lawn stuff. I asked her to throw dethatching in there for good measure.

Mow, edging, trimming of shrubs (that we don’t have), cleaning of debris, weed removal and spraying, dethatching and aerate, fertilize and overseed. $675.

Not sure on pricing, but wanted to ask if this was legit. I figure it is with time and size of the lawn but I told her that’s a negative.

Driveway? Curb? I clean up the gap between the curb and the grass with mine.

Driveway is asphalt and didn’t want to risk it. I use the weed wacker for that.

I didn’t do the curb since when I moved in they were redoing the sidewalk corners and had some of the curb tore up so I held off. Everything else has been edged. Which is still quite a bit.

The black and decker plug in electric edger is fairly cheap. I have one that I use a few times a year. The rest of the time I just flip the string trimmer over.

edit: apparently it’s $90. I know I didn’t spend that much on it.

I probably have the same one you do but honestly haven’t used it in several years. I find the string trimmer does the trick just fine every spring.

I’ll probably use it one last time to trench for the electronic dog fence wire and then sell it off.
