OP:
After stressing over what to buy for the last few weeks I’ve finally made a decision and I’m happy with it.

Picked up a 2018 GTI SE w/ DSG & leather interior. Was the last 2018 GTI sitting on the lot at Emich VW in Denver and was heavily discounted.

Ive had my IE intake since like 17? Flawless usage so far.
The foam they included for the front of the air box where it rests on the fan shroud fell off in the first week or two so it’s always knocked on start up. But finally used that crappy secondary air filter mount that tweaks the hose under the air box and that seems the be causing the constant rattling now. Looks like they’ve addressed all these issues with the newer design. Would be cool if they had an upgrade program.

This Integrated Engineering CAI is absolute dog shit. I see they changed the design on the current offering but the Gen 1 intake knocks on start up and rattles whenever the A/C is on and I’m idling.

the open one? I’ve never had an issue, but I have BFI mounts too. Could the code have anything to do with that little secondary air injection filter setup? I have never got that code but seems weird it would be oil change related.

Code seems to have gone away since I pull the oil cap off and wiped down the seal and reinstalled. That seems to be the common fix from what I was finding. I was a little conference when. I found a YouTube video linking that code to a bad rear main seal letting air in lol.

Who was free?

I called around for some maintenance and it’s like 2 weeks out. I gave up.

T Turtle Hawk VW in Joliet had availability about a week out when I scheduled mine. I did it online through their service site. Hilary was my advisor, she was good. My wife's Edge/Explorer service advisor at Ford has a GTI and that's where he goes for service.

weird. I have the same one. The grommets are a bitch to get onto the mounting posts but mines been tight.
Im sure if I add some foam to the front where the metal is just resting on the fan shroud that’ll fix most of the issue. But I’ll have to look into the secondary air filter as that is a terrible mounting setup bending the tube and sandwiching it under the air box. Maybe I’ll take it back out and just zip tie it to something.

I remember my GLI would loose coolant pretty regulalry. Took it to the dealer the first time because I got a low coolant warning and I was about 8 mins away. They topped it off for me and told me not to worry about it. I bought a gallon of Pre Mixed "European Car" coolant and would top it off every couple of months when I'd do an oil change. Still have the same gallon in my garage.
