finally mowed the lawn. It’s dry here. 1st time in the new house since the July 4th weekend. Really didn’t realize his how big the lot is and the neighbors didn’t know either. 2 of them were mowing 30 feet onto the property. Not that I give a fuck but even the old homeowners were surprised when they got the survey. Backyard Property line goes from the telephone pole on the left top corner to the edge of the picture past the huge bush on the right. Now I need a trimmer to get the rest and figure out what is a weed and what is a plant in the front of the house.

I'm pretty sure my parkway was sodded with bermuda grass years ago, every year it would only starting growing in late June-July, and was a shade darker than the rest of my lawn. It just stuck out and I wasn't really a fan of it, but after last year's late season drought and harsh winter large patches of it did not survive. So I put in a request and the village re-sodded with kentucky blue and man its coming in great with all this rain. Been cutting that on my Toro's highest setting E, rest of my lawn is a D setting. Usually drop it to C later in summer.

After today's mowing:

I cut this 4x this weekend... It was about 8" long...

Saturday (when I took this);
1) Rough cut with the deck on the tractor in the up position
2) Deck down, cut/mulch
3) Pass over again to get the mulch clumps up.

Sunday, I got over there and it had grown another 1 - 2 inches, so again, I made another pass.

Gouged the everliving fuck out of my yard this weekend after not cutting it for almost two weeks along with all the rain we had.

Crab grass is coming back already.

Ortho weed-b-gon spot spraying is working great on clover but isn't doing fuck all for dandelions.

That is all.

I feel like I need to control burn all of it this fall and just start fresh because it's a fucking mess.

Are Lawn Mushrooms A Good or Bad Sign for a Lawn?
A few mushrooms in a lawn are not necessarily a bad thing; in fact they are almost always a good thing! Mushrooms are the reproductive structures of fungi. Bacteria and fungi are the building blocks of a healthy soil. The presence of mushrooms is a sign that the soil is healthy. Living soils have the presence of millions if not billions of beneficial microbes and are teeming with beneficial bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes, and earth worms.
Lawn mushrooms are a clear sign of beneficial microbes at work in your lawn, which is all part of your lawn’s ecosystem.

I don’t really have crabgrass in my lawn, but from what I read anything Home Depot bought won’t touch that stuff. The levels of quinclorac in consumer weed control is way to low. We have a ton of crab grass in the new stuff we seeded at my dads this spring so I have this Q4 plus that just shipped today. Will report back on how well it works. A good pre emergent in spring before the crabgrass germinates is supposed to be your best bet. I did prodiamine this spring and so far so good.

I miss my commercial walk behind but it was just too much for my yard.

Its old too. My uncle used it for his commercial landscaping business for years then I’m sure he reported it stolen and sold it to my dad over 20 years ago when his business went under. The Kawasaki engine was replaced once years back and now it starts first pull and runs awesome.

Since I’ve been off with the baby I’ve been working on clearing out the weird planter beds in my back yard. I think I’m up to 12 yard waste bags of ground ivy and pachysandras. Later this month I’m getting 5 yards of pulverized topsoil to level those beds out with my neighbors roller and my level lawn rake. I know 5 yards is a lot of dirt but I have plenty of low spots in the side and front if I have extra. Need to get this spruce cut down and will be running the smaller tree on the left through the chipper at the same time.

this backyard gets about 4-5 hours of filtered light in the morning and then shade all afternoon. All last year I cut it at 3-3.5” and dealt with fungus and it laying down all the time. Have been mowing it at 2.25” but dropped it to 1.75” today and it looks even better. Want to get it nice and level so i can keep it at 1.25” possibly. Getting into reel mowing is tempting but I don’t feel like having to deal with sand leveling yet.
