Yeah pick the one that you feel most confident can negotiate and push the insurance company to pay up
That’s the route that I initially took with the roofer and that didn’t pan out. The roofer I have known for years and he had done work on my parents house through insurance and no issues.

Gotta find the one that is good a getting insurance to pay, your guy does good work I’m sure but gotta find the contractor that has connections.

I had the something similar happen and insurance was trying to deny it, pushed for a second inspection and my guy actually knew the adjuster, boom 50k roof was approved.

a lot of these people in the biz know each other and it’s all about who you know justlike any other industry.

We are getting a second inspection done. Long story short my wife flew off the handle on State Farm and the adjuster today. The adjuster left me a voicemail saying that “Mrs. Erickson doesn’t want me in your home. And I have to respect that.” So now we push for a second inspection with another adjuster

I went thru like 6 inspections and like 15 canceled inspections

We had a contractor canvassing the neighborhood years ago. They asked us if we wanted a free inspection, I figured, what the hell. They took care of everything with State Farm and had the siding replaced in a couple weeks.

The company was ARC Restoration. I would have given them a 5 star rating, but some fucking moron put siding over our laundry vent and made a huge mess in the drop ceiling. It could have caused a huge fire.

Forgot to mention. I called the agent today and we talked about the roof again that State Farm is just refusing to repair or replace. I told them that I want a note in my file signed by you and me that if my roof leaks again and I have to make another claim, it’s not my fault. It’s your fault because the problem is in fact from the June 26th date of loss and State Farm is not paying to fix the problem. The adjuster said ummmm I have to make a phone call on that. I’ll be in contact with you soon.

End result is that I got a check for $700. Total BS because that was not enough to fix the drywall and paint not to mention the leaking roof. I have been shopping for insurance with USAA but they are crazy expensive on homeowners insurance.

a whole 700. how kind of them.

im looking at country, or pekin, or erie... i might leave vehicles with STF as that side of things as you know, i've had good luck.

homeowners with state farm is just a complete nightmare. my public adjuster said that stf has just become straight fucking terrible to deal with on homeowners claims in the last 18 mos or so.

My parents neighborhood was nailed by a tornado last year. Half a dozen houses or so totally leveled, 100ish lost roofs, garages and siding.

I’d bet more than half of them are still covered with tarps waiting on insurance. Dad said everyone he talked to was getting dicked around. Fucking shame.

I’m going to get a quote from Erie again. I had them for a short while then went back to State Farm because the rates were a lot better on the cars. Like you said State Farm is good with autos but sucks dick for homes. Last summer when I had my claim the roofing contractor, who is a family friend of like 20 years, said that State Farm was becoming horrible to deal with.

short version of the story...
i filed my claim, asked around to my buddy's in the area what local contractor's they've had good luck with.

snagged one of them, he had done work for some of my friends in the past- basically had one of my good friend's entire house redone exterior-wise.

he met stf's third party person at my house, that third party person documented all the damage (i have holes in my siding from hail as we speak, hail cracked glass light fixtures on the rear of my house)
the desk puppet at state farm covered some strips of my siding and that was it
had a re-inspection with a different third party state farm designated someone, they documented the damage, my contractor met this person also. desk pusher denied anything additional.
i said i want someone from state farm to come out- they sent out someone that wouldn't get within 25 feet of my contractor BeCaUse RonA... gave me another grand or two.

i hired a public adjuster out of dekalb who had reviews- guy who only gets paid if i get more money. risk i was/am willing to take. he had 5 different roofers come out, document damage.
made a whole report, sent a bunch of angry letters and shit. have a "hover report" of my siding/roofing. have all this other shit.

example of one of the emails:

1653654998633.png

state farm sent out some 3rd party engineering firm that they basically use to deny claims.

im basically fucked. my roof is fucked. my siding needs to be replaced and state farm only paid to "lace it in"

just a fucking nightmare.

My in-laws have State Farm for like 30 years. They get paid every time!
When I turned 16 I went on my dad's State Farm auto policy. When wife and I moved into an apartment together when I was 23ish, I stayed with SF and switched agents to a local one to where we moved and got renters insurance. Wife switched to SF not long after we moved in together and we've been with the same agent since. We have both cars, house and her engagement/wedding ring all though SF.

For the most part, we have had no issues. We've had various claims throughout the years (hail damage on both cars in 05/06 when we were in apartments, broken windows, fender benders and most recently a windshield replacement) though we have never had any home claims yet.

House we moved into 2 years ago built in 03/04 and the roof appears to be original and probably needs to be replaced. We've been waiting for a bad storm to damage it and try and get SF to replace it, but we're also waiting to have the $ and just pay for it ourselves if/when they don't cover it.

I had my roof done finally after storms back in oct or sept. American family FTW! Only issue was due to materials back orders and the complicated roof.

State Farm is the worst for home insurance. Sadly a shit ton of people use them because they are also the cheapest. My boss is changing to the same AmFam insurance guy I have after getting denied by State Farm for multiple claims.

It’s so nuts because Am Fam sucks for cars.
