I currently have everything with State Farm and my rates are pretty good. But, I tried to make a claim on my house for wind damage, hail, and water leak causing drywall damage and I was denied. We have had some bad storms recently and I can pick up the shingles. The adjuster said shingles have to be missing for that to be considered wind damage. I’m sure the next windy storm I’ll have more water leaking in.
Anyways, I’m not real happy about that an going to be insurance shopping.

Who do you have? Do they pay out when you need them too?

I’m confused on State Farm denying the claim.

If you have wind, hail and water damage, what are they denying?

I’d stay with State Farm and get this sorted out. Not sure jumping to another company and filing a claim in the near future will work out in your favor (pre-existing issue).

Absolutely NOT^^^

Insurance companies collect and collect and collect for months years ect. If your not filing frequent claims and they hassle you Id say bye.

Insurance companies need to be kept honest and only way to do so is compare them to other available plans that are as nearly identical as possible.

Tenure and ohhhh Ive been with them for 395867 years doesnt mean shit to them.

2 things I absolutely despise as an adult.

#1 dealerships. They are all theives.
#2 insurance. Runner up thieves.

Adjuster denied the roof completely. Adjuster claimed that the shingles re-adhered. Bullshit. Once the shingles are pulled apart it’s compromised . Adjuster also claimed there was no hail on the date of loss. There were multiple funnel clouds and storms with straight line winds that day. Did it hail that day? I don’t know because I didn’t stand out side in the storm.
I clearly have wind damage as I can pick the shingles up. I clearly have hail damage as all the soft metal has dents and random impact marks in the shingles.
The estimate the adjuster wrote for my water leaks was a joke. He didn’t add for the walls. Just the ceiling. The drywall tape literally fell off at the joint from the wall to the ceiling. Also, the ceiling has mold from the water leak that’s almost right up against the wall. I’m not happy at all and once this is sorted out I’m dropping State Farm.

On a side note the painter at my work is also having major issues with State Farm. His van was totaled out in December of 2020 and it took 6 months for State Farm to pay off the loan. During the spring a tree fell on his house crushing the deck, grill, gutter, damages to the roof that now leaks, window and siding. He is still fighting with them because they claim the grill and window was not part of the claim. Also, patch the siding and the roof up and call it done.

Did you get a quote before the insurance adjuster came to look at it? All insurance companies will fuck you as hard as possible but someone fighting for you always helps, I have Allstate and they have been good to me
Yes. And it was about $20,000 for a new roof and drywall repairs.
I should add that the adjusters joke estimate was under $1000 so that doesn’t even hit my deductible.

Selling homes on the Gulf Coast of Florida
I had success with moving up the ladder and talking with a boss. Told her I had a large business policy with them and no previous claims. Next day the adjuster changed his tune and offered what I was asking to fix water damage in my home. He was not happy.

You can hire a lawyer but that may cost more than the claim is worth. It's a David vs. Goliath situation.

I took USAA for a ride when rookie tree service dropped a tree on my garage. It buckled 4 rows of trusses back wall side wall and walk in door. It wasnt insulated and I fought them to have it demolished and rebuilt before winter came.

I told them I was deployed and ill be damned if my wifes going to park in a snow bank when 3 construction companies said it would be faster to demo and rebuild than repair 2 walls and entirely new roof + trusses.

Anyways they didnt want to pay for concrete.

I paid out of pocket for a bigger rebuild but they paid for concrete of the original size.

I only paid for materials going from a 20x26 garage to a 36x36 with 12' walls and scissor trusses so it had height for a lift. Since i didnt have enough lot to go 3 wide on the garage.

After fighting USAA they finally paid for almost all the concrete because they approved the demo and rebuild in the 1st place. Its my choice as the home owner to rebuild bigger thats none of their business and I paid out of pocket for the remainder of the cost aftet the tress service cut me a 28k check. Total rebuild 36k all in.

Anyways DOCUMENT the shit out of the disputes.

Names who you talked to. Dates times. #of appraisals ect.

Ive got a pretty good track record fighting insurance companies and tickets in court LOL. NEVER LOST either!!!

1st court case vs insurance was a against state farm ironically. Their client T boned me in a black 2 door GTP and totaled the car. I offerend many times to settle for 75% of the book value of the vehicle but they wouldnt pay out a dime. I said the vehicles paid for and I cant replace it for free.

Progressive at the time represented me in court and while questioning the driver she said "i dont know where he came from" I knew after that its was cut me a check see ya.

Patience and documentation. Youll win.

I have Allstate and do not switch to them it took me over 2 years to get a new roof. The first inspection took 4 hours of pics and videos and the inspector from Texas gets down and says look u have hail damage everywhere. My roof looked like a crime scene with all the chalk lines. I said awesome contractor says pick out your roof shingles. Well a week later denied and it continued this way for a long time with many inspections. MY WHOLE block got new roofs I was disgusted and was pissed. Well after a long fight many phone calls and a new contracter who actually worked hard. I asked a few Allstate mgrs if I have a magical umbrella over my house ? Well I finally got my roof new roof 2 weeks ago almost 30k. Last one on the block with a new roof. If u want my contractors number she is a fighter she never gave up and canceled many inspections cause she said those inspectors are dicks and deny everything. I think it’s wrong one has to beg too repair the damage that’s there and that’s why we pay these high insurance premiums. I’ll pay one more year with them but I’m switching next year. Don’t give up sometimes it’s a long battle my contractor lady worked her ass off I had given up a long time ago.

It sucks to hear that so many are having issues with Allstate.... I don't look forward to submitting a future claim, but I have also heard that switching companies all the time makes it hard to gain leverage.

I had State Farm since the day I turned 16. I always had multiple cars with no wrecks, no claims, and a fairly clean record. I couldn't wait to turn 25 for a discount. The first bill I got after turning 25 I got stuck with a premium increase of about $400 a year. I felt so betrayed, and even called to ask if it was a mistake. They said that the number of claims in the entire country was up so everybody's premiums rose. Fuck the national average, and fuck you for making that MY problem when I'm not the one contributing to it. She was still dumbfounded when I told her to cancel all of my policies.

Yeah USAA dicked me pretty hard the same way ("for mil/veterans" my fucking ass). Turned 25 and my rates went up and then a couple years later went up AGAIN because of "state averages". Fuck you no they aint. State Farm got MORE coverage for cheaper than USAA so that was an easy swap.

I've also had absolutely zero issues with anything State Farm related since moving to them thanks to yajyak. I also use a local guy so I feel that has way more leniency than just dealing with a megaconglomerate faceless customer service rep.

I'd say just keep fighting it.

Buddy in Elk Grove is fighting with State Farm for the exact same reason Smug is. Although he doesn’t have the water damage in the house yet, but he will eventually. They are denying a wind damage claim on his roof. He is at the point of hiring a lawyer.

18 years ago State Farm dropped us for a hail damage claim on our aluminum siding and gutters (no roof it was denied lol). We were in our house like 2yrs and 6 months or so. Reason they dropped us, because we made a claim within our first 3yrs of home ownership. It was an act of God you stupid fucks, I wasnt out there teeing off on golf balls directed at my house.

Shoot me over the contact info. I had hail damage but never filed a claim as my neighbor did and Allstate denied him. My neighbors got roofs approved due to hail damage.

My claim with State Farm was a piece of cake...... The exterior company had their guy there to debate with the adjuster, they walked the roof, and before they left I had a check in my hand from State Farm.

I think having the company there to walk the roof with them helps if you're not doing that already.... State Farm covered my roof and I sprung for the soffits fascia and gutters because they were all jacked up prior to the storms.

keep fighting them, don't sign anything until you are content. Get another opinion or adjuster to come out. Also find a reputable exterior contractor who can meet the adjuster on the roof. We had a microburst a few years ago, initially the adjuster they sent just wanted to do half my roof. I got an exterior company to point out all the things he overlooked. Ended up with a full tear off new roof, new siding, gutters and downspouts. I have Farmers.

American family. Both me and my parents have been using them for home and auto. No issues and the claims we have put in have never been a problem. We go through a local rep and his office staff are all great.

USAA is Terrible and expensive. My wife’s family uses them and had to fight to get their claims approved after clear storm damage. Even my wife had car insurance through them and they tried to drop her after 1 accident and raised her rates to $180 a month. Moved her to my insurance under American Family and dropped it to $68 a month.

That shit pisses me off too because USAA are supposed to be for veterans and to fuck them over like that is just wrong.

What I’ve found useful is to have a contractor that fights for you until the very end, you can pretty much expect a fight with any insurance company, very rarely do they just pay up.

I had a claim that they paid way more than I even thought I needed to be repaired. I had no idea there was such thing as hail damage to a roof until someone told me about that. The insurance company sent someone out. He and the contractor looked the house over and went on the roof. The adjuster wrote up a TON of stuff. Even my contractor was like "I've never seen an adjuster so thorough.". The adjuster wrote up the roof, gutters, facia, downspouts, door frames, window frames, paint on the patio, stain on the deck, and then the same stuff on the garage. WAY more than I even could see damaged. The contractor and I were floored when we saw his estimate and instant approval.

20+ year homeowner with MetLife. Only made one claim prior about 15 years ago for wood damage to a wood floor in my kitchen. Dude must have thought I paid plenty without getting anything in return. lol

The same contractor had to fight to get a lot of the same repairs paid for on my parent's house with State Farm. Which they eventually were able to get covered. After like 2 months of back and forth.

I’m taking steps forward to fight State Farm on this. I called the agent late yesterday and he is suppose to get back to me Monday. I have an estimate for the roof and estimate for the garage and kitchen to give to them.
Should I get multiple estimates from different contractors and submit the highest one?

I don’t try to do anything like that, I go with the company that does the best work or I’m the most comfortable with and use them.…
