Put an Apc UPS on my 10850k/3090 rig. Yep that’s 836w being used at full 100% stress test. Pc only connected to it at the moment.

Its the 390 sucking up most of that. :)

So, turns out my 2013 MacPro despite what people say cannot deal with the 32:9 monitor via a MiniDP to DisplayPort cable. It will not output legibly unless I set the DisplayPort version back to 1.1, then its stuck at a ridiculously low resolution.

If I use HDMI, I can get 3840x1080 @ 60hz. But can't get 5120x1440 (I'd take 50hz at this point if it could run it.

My Gaming PC of course has no troubles, but I don't use it daily.

Gonna have to think hard on this, might be time to replace the Mac Pro if I can't find a solution to the display issue. Definitely not getting rid of the G9.

I now understand why people complain about HDR in Windows. Its fucking terrible. HDR content is fine, but the OS itself is fucking lost when it comes to brightness. It also casts white in a slightly yellowish tint like the color temp is too warm.

When I adjust the settings so the desktop looks right, the black levels go to shit when displaying dark/shadows or just plain black backgrounds. Black washes out terribly.

I did play a few HDR movies and they look phenomenal, the regular experience is crap.

Whats needed is a way for Windows to automatically switch between SDR and HDR modes when the content requests it. That seems to be 100% missing.

But here are both my old 34" and new 49" sucking up every ounce of space on my desk compared to just the old 34".

I mean, TV's have figured this shit out. I see them auto switch all the time.

At least the 240hz and G-Sync are working great. Freaking awesome to play games at uber resolution and refresh rate.

Sadly, Control does not support 32:9 very well, it can be done, but I have to mod some files to get it to work, but it probably won't handle a regular 1080p display after I mod it.

I mean, the specs say it should.

Xeon E5-1680v2 8 Core @ 3ghz.
Dual AMD D700 GPUs with 6GB each.
32GB Ram.

Supports 3 5K displays, or 2 4K @ 60zh displays as long as each display is on a separate thunderbolt bus.

Technically, this monitor has less pixels than a 4K Display, so it needs less total bandwidth.
4k = 8.3MP
5120x1440 = 7.3MP.

I don't know why I've been torturing myself going down the graphics card rabbit hole today. I'm just trying to learn whats what tho since I honestly havent really paid attention to graphics cards since I bought my 970
I was looking at 3080's lol, then saw the price and said nope. Not going to pay that kind of money for what should be a $700-$800 card at most.

Granted a 3070 is probably about 50-80% faster than my current 2080, but the 2080 plays everything fine, even on this new uberMonitor.

Then again, I'm looking at M1 Mini's lol just to get the full resolution and considering ditching this MacPro. I'm looking at the Trade-In value right now from Apple.

I loaded up some Doom Eternal since they updated it a while ago to support RTX, HDR, and DLSS.

Turned on everything, tried to apply the settings.

"I'm Sorry, but your piddly dick RTX2080 doesn't have enough Memory to display this awesomeness"

Had to back it down to 3820x1080 lol to get it under 8GB.

Then proceeded to run Doom Eternal with RTX+HDR @ 120fps average.

Sold the MSI 3080ti to Bikrboy128 for MSRP. Got an EVGA 3080 FTW3 ultra 10gb Friday. Sold it 2 hours ago because I walked into MC this morning and picked up an EVGA 3080ti FTW3 ultra 12gb that was on the shelf. Sold the 3080 (non ti) for pretty much what I paid for the Ti. Winning. This journey all started with a $529 3070 that has paid for itself through mining ETH. I basically have a free 3080ti and a free PlayStation 5 (had a $329 3060 that I mined with for a few months and traded it straight up for a PS5). Been a good tech year so far. I am done until I can get the Hybrid version of this card, Then I will trade for that and prob make money on this card. We will see.

Jesus Fuck this monitor is bright.

I'm used to monitors that are typically in the 200-400nit range. This 1000nit shit is blowing out my eyeballs. When playing a game in HDR you are in this dark area, and ME:2 has lots of darkly lit scenes.

Then Terry Crews comes out of nowhere and turns on the Double Sun Power and burns your retina's to ash.

Did similar with my 3080. Got it for $700 from BB and sold it to a local computer shop here in Tampa for $1650. Then got my 3090 from BB again and Im bout ready to flip it to this same guy again for $2600. I have been trying daily to win a 3060 or 3070ti from the newegg shuffle for MSRP, but only won an xbox series X....so far. But I try every day. If I can get the 3060, I will have no problem stepping down to it for a year until GPU prices come back to earth. Then I'll get an EVGA 3080 like you got for pennies on the dollar.

Hooked up the Windows 11 Surface Pro 4 to the new display. No problems running dual monitor using the SP4's built in display, in addition to the G9 at full 5k.

CPU is a bit weak, but it is a supremely mobile i7 from 2015, a dual core i7-6650u. So its not really what should ever be called an "i7" by any stretch. Sometimes the UI bogs down, but it does that even without the external display connected.

Playing around with Windows 11 is kind of fun. The GUI is much improved, and while normally the center task bar is not much of a change, on this giant ass 49" wide monitor its VERY appreciated. Allows me to keep my focus in the middle of the giant as fuck screen.

The CPU struggles with things like video playback though. Sometimes YouTube videos are choppy. The thing is just too old to really be useful, but its a bit shocking just how capable it still is, even when driving this big ass display.

Even now, just typing this post, and playing a video in Plex with HW Decoding enabled is sucking up 100% of the CPU.
