What was the fix?

i honestly think, when i shocked with muriatic acid, sunday night, that was the game changer, because the "normal" pool shock wouldn't have worked with water alkalinity as high as it was

hoping today chlorine shows up on my test and then i may back my chlorinator down.

i backwashed last night, i will again tonight and tomorrow night.

careful with the amount of muriatic acid you use, as it can be corrosive to the pool.

keep some baking soda on hand which can be useful to level out the pool at times.

i read the constructions, meldeded it in a plastic 5 gallon bucket with fresh water added first, mixed her up real nice, added her slow.

and i dont really know what it could be corrosive to, to be honest. but again, i dont know pewls

I use baking soda to raise my PH, cheaper than the shit the pool store sells. Buy the big ass bag from Sams or Costco

my ADD ass took my time, did the drops and shit yesterday to test, they mimicked the strips pretty closely, my numbers are slowly coming more in line... very little free chlorine still though but pool is clearing up nicely.

Trial and error, you will 100% get it figured out. Bought my house at 25yrs old and never had cut grass before, let alone manage a pool (was one here when we bought the house). I have essentially an 8th grade education and I figured it out lol.
