The point you're making is the exact reason why I am so interested in these. Coming from a plethora of 2003-2011 Rangers, I can't stand the size of the new Ranger/Colorado, especially with little to no change in interior width due to all the crash standards and airbags. If you go back a few pages you'll see I argued that point and that I was hoping to see a regular cab version with a 6ish foot bed come out of the Maverick. If that was an option in a base trim with cloth seats/vinyl floor, with power windows/locks/mirrors/AC/cruise control I would buy that one in a heartbeat. The only reason I'm even stepping to an XLT in the first place is for the cruise and power/heated mirrors. I'm well aware that I'm the vast minority here looking for the configuration I described, however, and for what I need it for as a daily driver to rack miles on for work and personal use this should do just fine.

I would love to see an AWD hybrid personally, and if they ended up offering it with a 2-3 MPG reduction I'd probably go for it. Do I think AWD is going to be a necessity? Not really, but, I do typically end up utilizing vehicles a bit closer to their limits in adverse conditions than most drivers do as well, so it'd be something I would pay for lol.

It'll definitely be bigger than a 2000's Ranger or S10, it's also a 4 seater. It may actually be relatively comparable to the crew cab S-10's of the early 2000's. That's also been my biggest gripe with the 2000's trucks as well as the current Ranger/Colorado. They just don't pull the fuel economy to justify me having one. Granted, I've never played around with a new diesel Colorado to see what they can do for economy with an emissions delete and conservative tune, but when I can get 18-19mpg hand calculated out of a 1-ton dually, a little 4-banger Ranger SHOULD be able to do better than 23-24, which is all I ever get out of my 2.3 powered Rangers driving conservatively.

The modern DI 4-banger gasser/ hybrid system is what's making the MPG's what they are and appealing to me. The 2.0 ecoboost MPG figures make me shy away. I don't need big power. I have big power, big towing capacity, etc. I need to be able to merge onto a highway without feeling like I'm going to die and as close to 40mpg or more.

One of these is what I'm referring to. I'd be willing to bet the bed size as well as overall size of the Maverick compared to one of these is similar.

So after spending about a bored hour and a half running all the different configurations and such, it really looks like the best bang for your buck is an XLT with the XLT Luxury Package. XLT gives you all the power options, cruise, power mirrors, pretty good looking alloy wheels IMO, body color accents and a nicer cloth interior. I really couldn't care less about the wheels and body accents, but at minimum I want power windows, power locks, power heated mirrors, A/C, cruise control and some sort of factory phone integration, and the fact that you can't check those basic boxes on an XL is annoying. The luxury package gives you:

-8 way power drivers seat, 6 way manual passenger
-400w inverter with plug in cab and bed
-Bed tie-down rails
-Spray in Bedliner
-Heated Mirrors
-Heated Seats
-Heated wiper park
-Keyless entry w/remote start
-Leather wrapped, heated steering wheel
-LED box lighting
-Trailer Hitch w/wiring

That package for $2,300 is a steal in my opinion.

So, I pre-ordered one. I know it doesn't mean shit, but, it's a Maverick XLT with the 2.5 Hybrid powertrain. Carbonized Gray. XLT Luxury Package with no other options checked. If the 40mpg number holds true, the hybrid gets rated to tow at least 2000#'s, I comfortably fit in it and the pricing stays where they say, I think it will be a perfect DD. I'll lose some towing capability compared to my Yukon, but I'll gain the MPG that I was looking at purchasing yet another vehicle to achieve. In the end I'll call having to potentially use my big truck a bit more in that 2001#-6000# window to allow one less vehicle owned is a wash that I'm totally fine with.

Puts the total MSRP at $26,120.

If I could get this today, I likely would. Exactly the same truck you ordered color and all. I would replace my daily fusion for work duties and I could use it to haul and tow all for around 25k seems like a deal. Thanks for doing the leg work! Too bad it will be a year before they are available.

Theres nothing like it on the market comparable as far as mileage, utility and price. Knock on wood my Yukon makes it another year. We’re at 299,409 on the odometer as I’m writing this post lmao.

XLT hybrid with Luxury Pkg is also how I initially spec'd out my ideal daily driver Maverick as well, just like Outlaw and Dun. FWD with weight over the front end and some decent snow/all-weather tires will be just fine for Chicago winters.

Although I feel if I drove the 2.0 turbo version, it'll remind me alot of my prior Focus ST and the performance/economy tradeoff might sway me... But then if one is looking at the 2.0 turbo Maverick, the Hyundai Santa Cruz 2.5 turbo needs to be considered as well. "Performance Street Truck" is more achievable than offroad blaster, like Bru mentioned.

Can anyone predict the cost of fuel for the next 5 years please? Maybe if electric vehicles really take off and become 30-50% of new vehicles, then gas demand will drop enough that prices would again drop dramatically back to the $2 range. Would be nice!

After looking into it, the big deal killer for me is the XLT doesn't have wireless charging. That being said my payment went from $530ish to $420ish. Maybe I can just continue to plug my phone in . I'm very interested to see what they rate the hybrid highway mpg's at.

More I look into these the more I like them. Now with that review I think I need the flat blue, looks good and matches the interior. Only problem is I hate dealerships.

One thought too with the orange accents, maybe I can get GLADIATOR GLADIATOR to paint my calipers orange after I buy one????
