i wanted a stereo here in thailand that was decent, i'll still be here a while. what would cost me $150-250 for a nice used 2.1 system in chicago via craigslist/ebay and a weekend took more like 3 weeks and $700 here. all audio stuff is much more (buying on amazon new and importing here is about the same as buying new here).

the thais are pretty tough negotiators and stuff holds pretty high value too. in any case, all my transactions went great - even being fairly high value and in a much lower income country than the US. i did bank transfers for all 3 transactions (receiver, subwoofer, and bookshelf speakers) and all 3 guys sent me pictures of their thai IDs. stuff went pretty smooth overall when decisions were made, pretty nice. packing and shipping a 40 lb sub from bangkok to my island was about $16.

Wow! And here I thought EVERYTHING including the women were beyond cheap there? Speaking on that, I’m due for a vacation, how much? [emoji16]

He never sends the address and yet asks me if I’m still interested lol wtf and then updates it as sold then back to available again, these stupid fucks don’t even know how to sell a car.

Marauders are overpriced taxis anyways...

Selling a Ford 2.3 turbo motor that has about $600 worth of new cam/valvetrain stuff in it. Unfortunately this fucktard didn't respond any more. He lives in Maryland - something tells me he wouldn't even have the gas money to get to Chicago in the first place.

This 100%

I've had great luck showing up and tossing half the money for an item in someone's face when I'm in person. But really... I just wait for those opportunities. I'm done chasing a deal unless it's too good to be true...

Being on the selling side as much as I am, I know how to be a damn good buyer and it really helps a lot. The only time I'll make someone an offer over phone/text/FB Messenger is if they're an hour or more from me and I'm not prepared to pay full asking price if it comes down to it. Like daturbosix daturbosix said, cash in someone's face is a lot more motivating than a quick message over the internet. I get most of my marketplace deals by actually being the one that shows up after smooth and straightforward communication. People get so tired of no-show, stupid question asking assholes that they usually are more than willing to accept an offer to get it out of their lives.

I'm also the asshole that fucks the system on things that are priced insanely cheap. I do the $50-100 offer over their asking price, tell them I have the cash in my pocket and an empty trailer already hooked to my truck and after they send the address I can be there in X time. Works like 70% of the time.

I've more often than I like to admit burned an hour and a half getting to someone's house finding the pictures they posted to be fake or 15 years old by the looks of the item. None of them were willing to budge on price even with me in a truck parked in their driveway with cash. I've learned to just walk away and chalk it up as some relaxation time listening to a podcast and going for a drive.

Even your over bidding trick has been failing me lately. That used to be my go-to when I was flipping stuff. So many people are like "well this flakey person said they were interested first and they will be here during the next harvest moon" and won't take the immediate pickup. We all know the odds of that person actually showing up is like 5% if the meetup is scheduled more than 24 hours away.

It's honestly getting to the point with selling stuff for me I'd rather just throw it away or give it away. Even pricing things like $5-10 just to get them out of my garage I can't get people to commit.

If these idiots only knew what I throw away with zero fucks given they’d literally have a heart attack..

I hate throwing away perfectly good stuff so I try to donate as much as possible. I’ll do that any day than to come down to the average buyers level and do them a solid. Fuck em, it’s never really about the money to me. Show up and give me a good entertaining story and a smile and I’ll probably take your low offer. It’s called respect and can go a long way. Shooting low balls over text only gets you blocked anymore. Quicker. Simpler.
