Man, some of the smaller ISPs that were competing for federal funding are really butthurt with Starlink.

I just made a typo and had a thought. If you view porn via this ISP can it be called StarKink? ?

Haven’t ordered mine yet but they said it’s available for my area now. I think I’ll wait another year for the main bugs to be worked out. The current internet provider out here actually isn’t bad. Only 30-40mbps but it runs everything I need to. No issues yet and they are a local small business so I like supporting them.

Its initial rollout wouldn't even be a sidegrade for a lot of people. But for some with GSO only as an option (or wireless providers), this is a godsend.

As for the hughesnet speedtest posted prior, this is impossible unless we've bent the fourth dimension. The 57ms latency doesn't make sense. Unless I missed something recently, Hughesnet is GSO only and you're going to be lucky to get 500ms+ latency due to the distance alone. GSO internet is such shit and the companies know they've got every subscriber hostage as they have no other option. Now Amazon is working on an LEO solution as well. Life will be better soon for us in the boonies I think.

Waiting for the price wars that Elon will win because he's Elon. I'd love to see a plan that's the opposite of Crapcast and rewards long time customers with lower prices instead of giving newbies the better pricing.
I’d like to see pricing to compete against Metronet, $80/mo for synchronous gigabit.

I got the email too. Might sign up for my dad to get him a place in line.

I’ve heard nothing not bad things about satellite internet in HEO.

I look forward to what the LEO can do.

I’d forward this to my dad, but he seems to have a bit of an ice and power problem at this time. Too much ice knocking out his power. Been out for two days.

Been a hell of a week for that, glad frozen pipes and heat pump after a couple hour blackout was the worst of it. Dish didn't ice up tho. I'm on viasat til starlink comes up out here. It's pretty reliable and for the 25 claimed megs it really hasn't ever had an issue with me running my office while the kids have 4 movies and 2 tablets goin so I can't hate much but the price of it. And the ping. It made me give up the ps4 pretty quick

Amazon is “working on it”

meanwhile Blue origin hasn’t even reached orbit yet. If they can’t even get the satellites into space how are they supposed to beat Starlink?

What?

Who said anything about beating Starlink? I was simply mentioning the fact that they're working on a solution as well. Nothing more, nothing less.

im not saying you did. Just building on your initial comment. Point is if anybody is gonna wait for the Amazon satellite internet constellation, it’s going to be a long long wait

Any of you guys get starlink yet? I just signed up for the new house. Depending how quick it shows up I’m just going to get Comcast prepaid internet so I’m not locked into a contract, or go a couple weeks without internet if it shows up quick.

I’d be looking at $80/mo from Comcast anyways and having to get in a yearly knife fight over the phone about prices going up.

I placed the order feb 18th for my boss's house in the UP and it's been crickets since.

this was their last email:

Starlink will begin offering service in your area beginning mid to late 2021. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified via email prior to shipment, and you will be charged the remainder of your balance once your kit ships.
