🔧 BUILD Upside-down M90 GTP build thread

General Information

When your wife gives you permission to build a racecar, you build a racecar.

This is what happened to me. However, all funding for this project comes out of my construction account. I really need a telehandler, so this is very budget friendly. Luckily, I've been stockpiling parts for years. This isn't an overnight build by any means. My goal is to make a 1/4 mile pass with it before the tracks close for the season. I'm taking a risk here and using photobucket for image hosting, so hopefully they don't screw me over again.

So let's start it off. I bought a 04 L26 motor with somewhere north of 100k on it and started to tear it down.

Everything looks good so far. The pistons are really clean. There was some junk sitting in the oil pan, but not much.

You don't vacuum bleed the power steering pump all you have to do is with the car up in the air cycle the steering from lock the lock while filling the reservoir. After about 10 times of going from Lock to lock after letting it sit for a minute between times you're mostly blood out and you can start it run it locked a lock shut it off let it sit one or two more times and by then it's usually fully bled

So I'm slowly bleeding the pump. Every day I'm turning the wheels back and forth a few times. I think it's probably ok to start it now, but I'm not in a huge hurry at this point yet.

I did decide to put transmission fluid back in it, before I forget and start it.

And, it's leaking.

Looks like the seal on the dipstick tube isn't pushed in all the way, but I think the majority of the leaking is coming from the bracket on the tube. It's really loose, so I'm going to have to pull it off and weld it shut.

So I welded the 3 holes shut, but the dipstick wouldn't go in then. So I had to cut it off completely, clean it out with a die grinder, then welded it back together again. Then welded the bracket back on. Took way longer that it should have.

I was also able to start it tonight and had it running for maybe 5 minutes. I think the ps pump is quiet, but I can't tell for sure. I'm going to have to unhook the supercharger to make sure. I need to fix my cooling fans before I drive it much, as they aren't kicking on.
