Here’s my current e-mtb. Ordered the same one just better parts all around (and it’s orange).

Like I said, they have a place but I don't feel it's going to last. I think eventually it will drift away to a degree.
As for BMX dying, there are more track and more racers now than there ever has been. The sport is growing at a rate the sanction can barely hang on to. most tracks are seeing record number or motos every week. Hell the local indoor in Hobart, IN regularly sees 70+ motos any Saturday night. This is thier Gold Cup Qualifier weekend and they are planning on 150+ motos.

Yeah no way, you'll see more and more people using them to commute, that's what mine gets used for 99.9% of the time. If I want to go for a bike ride I just take one of my normal bikes. Commuting 200miles/week on a normal pedal bike? Not interested. I'd probably be a lot less fat though.

I sold my fat tire ebike for more than I bought it for, people are using them in cities to deliver food. I don't live in the city nor will I ever, so I don't have to deal with all of those assholes running red lights and shit

You can get cheaper treks, they just don’t have the speed or torque of the more expensive ones
View attachment 83831
20mph, 40nm, 500wh battery $2600

Here’s a hardtail mountain bike they sell. I wanted to get this for my wife but they were out of stock when I ordered

View attachment 83832

That’s 20mph, 85nm, 500wh battery and $3700
That’s the same motor I have in my trek rail, I just have the bigger battery. It rips, I just wish there was a class 2 mode that went 28mph. Keeping up with my wife proves difficult even with her pulling like 60lbs worth of kid and trailer.

They look so much better when the battery is integrated into the frame like the lower one....

Just telling you what I’m seeing on the retail side man. I work at the largest shop in the entire state of Colorado. I’ve also been there 8 years and have seen them start to trickle in to get full blown huge.

You’re giving an opinion with zero actual experience or first hand knowledge. I was like that many years ago. Seemed like it was for the elderly or out of shape people but in reality it’s also for people who want to ride waaay farther in a shorter amount of time. I get to ride twice as much and experience twice as much descending in the same amount of time OR get an entire ride in that would take me twice as long on a regular bike all while still getting cardio in.

Yep I agree. There’s been a split into a smaller battery and motor design too that’s way lighter and way more like a traditional bike. It’s actually the same design that was found inside a few pros bikes that were cheating many years ago

I have never had a single person on a bike say anything to me on any of my Ebikes, they just go on doing whatever they're doing and live life. I've def had a few yell at me when I buzzed them on my motorized bike though, but to be expected. They're walking with their headphones in and not paying attention, of course a 35mph flyby is going to upset them. If you can't hear that thing coming then you deserve it.

People talk shit on trails every once in a while, usually it’s because I’m passing them while climbing. I had two guys say I was cheating and then later in the parking lot I asked them how far they rode, I rode more than twice that in about the same time.

Guessing people don’t even notice on the streets. What you’re out there doing is generally what people bitch about with e bikes though.

My average speed is like 15mph, I don't upset anyone on my ebike. There's no getting around scaring people walking in the same direction with headphones in though, doesn't matter if I'm going 5mph or 15mph, they aren't paying attention and get scared. :dunno: It wasn't always like that but now everyone is using bike paths to do their power walks because of Covid. Can't walk around their neighborhood on the sidewalks anymore apparently.

I was going to ask, how would anyone notice it was an ebike unless trained eye? Aside from not pedaling for extended periods of time. Do the motors make a tell-tale sound like a "whirring"?

I think the main complaints were people who got ebikes that werent pedal assist ones and more of you have a thumb switch and just crank that fucker to full speed and go whizzing around everyone like an asshole.

Or the people that are just mad cause someone like Bob Kazamakis ilikemtb999 smoked past them uphill. :bowrofl:

I could see the whizzing past. But even when I've been on the trail, I've been blown past by professional bikers in general, so I wouldn't have batted an eyelash. :D

I ask because I can't say I've seen an e-bike go by. Lot's of people with the 2-cycle powered ones though.

That looks a bit wild and surprised to see a downhill fork on it. Any more info you’re allowed to divulge?

destined to have hub motor option as well as tangent/our own version of tangent mid drive option

Looks torquey. I’m actually more interested in travel and suspension design. I’ve only seen a few downhill e bikes and usually from very niche companies. Are these your guys who were doing carbon rotors?

well, part of that company had some internal strife and troubles from its co-founder, who is not a part of this one.

my buddy has played with some funky suspension stuff

if you wanted to talk turkey with him i could shoot you his email

This is why I really want to get an e-bike of some kind, probably the pedal assist version. I just want to ride longer and go further than I normally do.
I do most of my riding off-road on dirt and limestone trails and I love being out in the woods.

The problem is, most of the decent e-bikes cost an arm and a leg. They're WAY too much money.
