Trade that fucker in on an E-bike

Those e-bikes are definitely on my radar.....

I always figured I would keep this thing and drive it into the ground, but thats a damn nice offer for it.

Sell it and buy GLADIATOR GLADIATOR ride for $1k and pocket the 14k. :s00ls:

:fy:

My wife has this one and it goes 28mph with ease.

Have you heard of Haibike? I heard their ebikes were nice, or would you stick to the Treks, Specialized, etc....

Get into this argument with my friend all the time. He's in the "electric bikes defeat the purpose of a bike, to go out and get exercise!" group, and Im in the "who cares, if an ebike gets someone out riding for 20 miles instead of zero because they dont enjoy it, then thats a good thing" group....

I have a nice path system by me thats 12 miles long, Ive tried to ride it and just cant because theres a few hills that I need to stop and walk up because im a fat slob. I figure if I could use assist for those tougher parts it would make it a nicer experience and I would be more likely to go ride it.

this is all really interesting to me though.

the $4500 for the trek one is kinda tough to bite off pricewise for someone like myself who hasn't ever thought about pricing on these but fuck they make so much sense... and the more i think about it, the price makes sense also.

I agree, the price is a little rough. I was looking at some more in the $2500 range and they still look like they would be nice, but I defer to our resident bike guru's like Bob Kazamakis ilikemtb999

i think the biggest thing, you KNOW you're buying quality and the thing will be worth a good amount for years to come.

They’re pretty big and I think only use Bosch motors, I don’t have direct experience with them though.

Doesn’t look like they do any commuter style bikes, only class 1 bikes (mountain/trail) and are rated to 18-20mph.

I really like the Bosch stuff. Almost never have issues, they’re the only ones with UL rated batteries and they’ve got a ton of torque.

They make cheaper ones (trek), the biggest difference to look out for is the battery size on the cheaper stuff.

I was an e-bike hater till I actually rode one. I ordered one that day and I’ve got a new one coming hopefully at the end of the month.

Two things about it not being exercise:

One, It still takes work and power output is adjustable so it can be more or less. I use a heart rate monitor when I ride and I usually average about 70-80% of my max heart rate and it stays there pretty well vs spiking when I’m on a regular bike.

Two, I try way fucking harder because it hauls ass which makes it more fun. When you can nearly double your climbing speed it’s way more fun going UP a hill vs a conventional bike. I legit do not stop pedaling or take breaks.

Wife and I have two fat tire 26’ e bikes as well as regular 24’ mountain bikes. Both get used often enough.

I ordered our e bikes from a company called ecotric https://www.ecotric.com they were the least expensive bikes on the market and the price for two bikes equaled the price of one e bike elsewhere, they have good reviews, and know someone with over 1000 miles on it and no issues at all, and this person works at a bike shop part time.

my wife is a affiliate with ecotric if anyone is interested let me know as she has a discount code for some money off.

They have a line called Trekking that I think are more commuter style....

Like you mentioned, it looks like they use all Bosch stuff and that seemed to be what all the better ebikes had in common.... Bosch and they weren't hub motors....

An E bike is the price of a decent motorcycle, but different and used differently. No plates, insurance, can drive it on surface streets and bike trails.

I was seriously looking at buying a ridiculous $3600 kayak last year, you can buy a real boat for that price too. There’s so many differences in what and how you do with them though.

I'm just not getting the e-bike thing.

I bike to exercise, if I want to motor I'll wrap a leg around my scooter.

:obama:

You sound just like my buddy, yet you see a post by the one person on here who whos on bikes all day and likely rides them the most, and he's literally saying how they help him to ride further and harder....

I’ve heard good things about the Yamaha motors too. My biggest hang up is the no UL rating on the massive lithium ion battery. I just don’t want an uncertified potential fire hazard in my house.

Agreed, we are able to go to more places with the assistance of the e motor helping out. Also nice to have pedal assistance which keeps you at a certain speed.
